I watched an account of this recently on the American Heroes Channel, my favorite cable channel as of late. They show lots of war documentaries and also UFO/alien documentaries, like the Discovery Channel use to show. The Red Army was especially brutal in retaking the ground lost to the Germans in the Soviet Union and also in their advance into Eastern Europe, but so were the Germans, so it was payback. The civilian population suffered greatly as well. WWII was truly a horrible era !

ALL wars are horrible eras. I remember when the military returned from the Korean War and “brainwashing” becme a well-known phrase. The ugly, frightful results set the tone for the Cold War and the CIA and American Empire prominence that has only snowballed since. NO WAR has a place in humane affairs. But humane affairs has no place in politics, either – the politicians will see to that.
I had previously read that story re: the police dogs. There is no way they can’t be re-programmed, or turned over to dog-training businesses for re-programming. It was definitely a scare tactic from the cops in Illinois.
More and more, I’m thinking Switzerland is the “home of the brave,” if not the “land of the free.” (No country is completely free, each has its own cut-off point.) The Swiss do seem to remain aware of the ramifications and consequences of an action *before* they pass a law, and try to remain consistent.)
