Celebrate!

Today is Barack Obama Day, the first annual holiday in honor of the Lightbringer’s birthday.

The legislature in Obama’s former home state of Illinois passed a law last year to designate each Aug. 4 as a commemorative holiday to celebrate the 44th president, whose political career began in the Land of Lincoln. The law, signed by Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner (emphasis mine), takes effect this year.

Democrats had hoped to make Obama’s birthday a full legal holiday that gives state workers and others a day off with pay, but Republicans balked at the cost. The holiday is commemorative, meaning that it honors Obama without closing government offices.

Balked at the cost. Not the weird, monarchist idea. Just the cost.

Thank God the two-party system protects us from being ruled by dictators or kings.

Well, there is precedent. Illinois is the “Land of Lincoln,” and he has a major stake in President’s Day. (Which supposedly now honors all U.S. presidents by selling stuff cheaper.)

OTOH, I’d vote for a “full legal holiday that gives state workers and others a day off with pay.” Paying government workers to not do anything would save a lot more than it costs.

“Paying government workers to not do anything would save a lot more than it costs.”

Too bad the Founders didn’t include ‘term’ limits for any and all employees of the federal government. The idea may have flowed down to the states and towns. Term limits might prevent employees from staying in place long enough to become bureaucrats.

Now elementary schools will need to develop a whole curriculum plan for how children can best observe this important holiday. Perhaps “Barach Hussein Obama” chants!

“Illinois is the “Land of Lincoln,” and he has a major stake in President’s Day.”

Yeah, but at least everybody waited until Lincoln was decently dead before singing his holy praises. And eventually they even took his holiday away from him. Heck, Presidents Day (at least in theory) even includes Martin Van Buren, Millard Fillmore, Richard Nixon, James Polk, Warren G. Harding, and that guy who got sick at his inauguration and died a month later before having a chance to do any more harm — which I’d say gives Mr. Lincoln a well-deserved comeuppance.

Of course, after Lincoln was assassinated people were busy trying to impeach his successor, Andrew Johnson.

Come to think of it, that’s another parallel to Obama.

Obama is a Marxist and a failure as President. I couldn’t even stand the sound of his voice!
