- Atlas Mugged. Crony capitalism and Elizabeth Warren are two more ways Rand’s novel is proving prophetic.
- Nathan Barton: Welcome to the ghetto (beginning with gun owners).
- A teaching assistant at the University of Utah tries creating a punitive Second Amendment Zone in class. What was that supposed to accomplish, exactly?
- Such a surprise. Comey lied when he said the FBI had examined all the Clinton email on Weiner’s computer.
- Also unsurprising: Turns out our brains are designed to be distracted.
- Socialism is a hate crime.
- Hollywood’s appalling silence on free speech.
- Groups representing various disabled people protest Starbucks’ plastic-straw ban.
- Scott Greenfield on the intersection of Alameda County and one old deaf woman. Cops are increasingly not only tyrannical and brutal, but too stupid to function in civilization.
- Just how over the top is “social justice” in campus bureaucracy, culture, and coursework?
- Oh, good. Bacteria may be able to turn type A and B blood into type O. (That would be good news for those not too happy about being “universal donors” whose blood type might be in short supply at need.)

Thank you for linking to my story on Hollywood’s free speech silence. Wish I didn’t have to write it, though, and that stars spoke up more for free expression.
“Upon being alerted to the situation, the university promptly overruled the instructor and assigned them to non-teaching duties for the duration of the semester.”
Off topic, and I’m not sure if this is the Grammar Nazi in me or the Giver of Horselaughs to the Terminally-Insane Trans-Maniacs. But “instructor” is a singular noun. In old-school (i.e., correct) English, the relevant part of that sentence would have been “the university promptly overruled the instructor and assigned HIM to …”. That’s if the instructor was male, or generally if the instructor’s sex is not known. Obviously, in the case of a female instructor, we have “assigned HER.” If we don’t know if the instructor was a he or a she, and we’re feeling all inclusive, it might have been “him or her.” Hard telling here if we’re just looking at a bit more of the creeping death of literacy, or if accommodation is being made for some invented-pronoun freakazoid.
Also, it would have been good if the article had specified what manner of class this was. Still a fairly safe bet that it wasn’t a STEM class. Sadly, though, a less safe bet than it would have been even a few years ago. At this point, I believe the conventional colleges/universities in this country are no better than cesspools. Bulldozing is called for.
Re conversion of A, B, and AB blood types to O-type: is it possible this is already being done naturally? There are more O-types than A/B/AB-types already — perhaps because they have already been converted?
The gut is (now) a known factor is much of human health. E-coli is a known factor in that health. Wherever A/B/AB blood types came from, the bacteria have been doing their thing over the years, eating their antigens and converting the blood types to O-type.
Now scientists are discovering what the body may have been doing for thousands of years, and they are going to try to emulate the natural process (if it is a natural process). And the questions become: How are they going to do it? And should they? What will happen if the natural process is sped up?
I don’t know the answers, but as usual when humans try to take a hand in “natural selection,” there *MAY BE* some unknown or unintentional consequences — good or bad. Just something to think about.
Also, since I needed a little outrage porn with my lunch, I read the Scott Greenfield thing on the Alameda County heroes’ treatment of the dangerous old deaf woman. Did you read the comments? I can certainly see why Mr. Greenfield’s “blawg doesn’t pay for itself,” as his contribute-to-me button says. I don’t think Mr. Greenfield has missed even one single way in which to be a hyper-abrasive asshole. A lawyer … who’d have guessed it? Think I’ll call Saul Goodman, if I get jugged and need a mouthpiece.
The cops have always has a tenous relationship with the deaf. Let’s face it, the cops love to scream orders and get instantly obeyed. There’s also reasons why deaf males have a higher proportion of their population in prison, probably higher than the blacks do.
The government also always consider the disabled last, in anything they do. If you included the disabled link above, then this should also be included as well, for perspective.

When I first heard of calls for a ban on plastic straws, even the bendy ones, immediatly I knew it would impact the disabled.
Thought Mrs was kidding when she told me about animal crackers.
“overruled the instructor and assigned them”
As if teaching English grammer isn’t difficult enough, a university completely screws the pooch in terms of agreement of singular or multiple pronouns while trying for genderless ambiguity.
I am beginning to warm up to the royal and editorial “we” which I always thought silly and stilted. Compared to this, it’s almost… stately.
“creating a punitive Second Amendment Zone”
I’m for this. But I’m saddened that I doubt anybody including the teacher actually learned a lesson of value from the exercise.
Let’s see: Unjust Authority. Tyranny. Restriction of a duty(right) into a privilege. Public shaming of normal people to cause conformity. Bullying. Subjugation. Subjective application of universal principles. Punishment for taking a natural role of tribe protector. Perpetuation of the false construct of Adolescence. Denial of God by the destruction of His will. Etc.
About the weapon carrier the instructor said; “this is absurd, antisocial, and frightening behavior” (I’m sorry Claire but just have to.) What the teacher meant was; “I just wet my panties at the sight of a man.” It (Ze?) also cited the; “psychological safety” of the students and instructor.
When this debt fueled false prosperity of 300 million chattering class Americans goes sideways this ‘instructor’ is going to be lucky that a man would feed it for the privilege of cleaning his castle. The conflation of a feelings based existence and the need to be kept safe is what happens when people get bored. They take the ancestral, human drive to be safe from predation and win wars and turn them into a whining nannying tyranny. The correction to the mean, and likely overcorrection is going to be horrific. This instructor won’t last long.

One other thing about the punitive Second Amendment zone: I’d be shocked if anyone ever occupied it. I mean, if I’m carrying, that silly little grad student isn’t ever going to know it … unless something really, really bad happens.
It’s like some of these stores where they have “no weapons allowed” signage up. Private property, their privilege … but if I’m carrying and want to go in, I go in. Worst case, my concealment fails, someone asks me to leave, and I leave. But if that happens, it’s on me, because my concealment should not fail.
@James,
As you may know some states have a criminal statute associated with crossing a no gun sign. In others they hold no force of law but if asked to leave and you don’t, you would then be trespassing and still others have misdemeanor fines associated with it. In my state the sign holds force of law at 500 bucks and/or 1 year but the sign specs are very specific. I hardly ever see one let alone the actual sign as prescribed by law. I’ve never heard of somebody being prosecuted here for crossing the sign.
We need to start calling Socalism (or the ‘new’ fangled Deomocatic Socalism what it is: Homicidal Socalism.
Don’t let them control the language…the renaming or obsfucation of what something is has got to stop.
