Too much heaviness this week (though you guys gave even better than usual comments on my last rant, thank you; I hope everyone will read them).
Time for the better side of the world. Which means dogs.
The first story isn’t a happy one. Far as you can get from happy. Unconscionable bastard careens down a residential street at 80 mph, plows through a stop sign, then smashes into a young couple walking four Australian cattle dogs. All four dogs dead. Young man’s leg torn off. Young woman hospitalized. Bastard drives off without stopping. No, as far from happy as it gets
Yet a man a lot of people might have scorned becomes a hero. And at least they finally caught the miscreant. Who turns out to be exactly the sort of person you’d expect. May he get exactly what he deserves. No more no less.
Second story: Credit where it’s due. A policeman averts a puppycide. In the best possible way. (Tip o’ hat to the wonderful Maggie McNeill, The Honest Courtesan, best of Radley Balko’s guest bloggers.)
ADDED third story: Injured stray dog plucked from kill shelter to star on Broadway.
Now forget all the stories. How ’bout some simple dancing-dog smiles?

Super Patriot ? I heard a reporter for ABC this morning say seems the shooting in Colorado at thee Batman movue was not an act of terror but just that of a Super Patriot. I’m a Patroit but not super. The Founding Fathers would quiaify and several since. So now I bet the term Patroit will go viral as negative. Looks like I misspelled a little but just beside my self right now.

Very interesting articles. I do wish Mr. Long-Randall a speedy recovery. He might of been 300 lbs, but he showed the quality of person he is by stepping in front of that car to protect his freind and her dogs.
I hope the police department appreciates the officer that rescued the dog. They need many more officers with that kind of judgement and compassion. Then, again maybe he was just low on ammunition.
I’ve long been a proponent of decriminalizing prostitution. I’ve met a few practicioners (personally, not proffesionally) in my life and one and all they’ve been good people. I didn like what Ms. McNeill had to say and how she said it.
Huh. When you said the hit & run driver turned out to be “exactly the sort of person you’d expect“, I immediately thought he was a cop. Oh well.
Just ran across this article but didn’t have time to fully read. It does look interesting.

I thank you for inspiring me to write The Dulling. It is mildly popular on the BWH forum. It’s a nice change from writing bureaucratic garbage and technical manuals. There are no happy endings when one writes a memo.
Thank you for writing it, JG! I’ve blogged a blurb for it.
LOL, happy endings for memos. Now there’s an unexplored literary genre, for sure …
