Really good Rolling Stone article on that question.
Bottom line: nobody knows.
But I’m gonna predict that even if the murderous drug-thugs in DC succeed (with the encouragement of murderous drug-thugs in Mexico) in crushing Washington and Colorado, this is a battle that, in the long run, they are not going to win.

In fact, the harder they try to hammer Washington and Colorado, the faster they doom their precious prohibition. They are hemorrhaging support faster than they can plug the holes.
If they hadn’t bet it all on pot, they might have been able to keep some legitimacy, but then, the “harder drugs” would probably have never become popular enough to be a problem.
It’s like anti-gun “laws”- if the penalty for having a semi-automatic is just as nasty as the penalty is for having a fully functional, automatic battle rifle, why bother with the lesser weapon? If the penalty for having some dried leaves is just as bad as the penalty for manufacturing or using meth, why follow the less profitable or less “effective” path?
Haha, incentive structure. Yeah. Like the people who think only in terms of “control control control” can comprehend the existence of a decision tree in a non-controlled mind, thus recognizing and legitimizing free will.
Oh, don’t worry he will think of something heinous to do. There have been some reports that he will take away the gun rights of anyone who participates. There is a question on the form when purchasing a firearm so I suspect once your name is entered into the Federal registry you are not going to be able to purchase a firearm through “conventional” channels and will instead have to use unconventional ones, until he or some other gun grabber is successful at shutting that down as well.
Interesting that the great constitutional crisis of our time might be triggered over marijuana, not Bill of Rights infringement, not states rights or individuals freedom. Just lowly, smelly, ubiquitious marijuana.
I wouldn’t worry about not being able to buy firearms because of filling out a form. The form doesn’t care what you put down, and it filling it out is an act of self-incrimination that violates the 5th amendment. Besides, if you can’t figure the way around a simple form and registration of your purchase, you should ease up on the pot. ;o)
It’s doubtful that the huge government bureaucracy, something Obama and his minions believe in as the Christlike pillar of their philosophy, can allow this to stand. This could easily cause a reduction in the drug bureaucracy, not to mention a loss of overtime for serving LE officers who make a ton of money on old programs like CAMP. Obama is all about control, anything that lessens it can’t be allowed to stand.
EN, good point. When this all takes off and they figure out just how many people will NOT be feeding the system, i.e. jails, private prisions, etc. plus the reduced need for whatever “alphabet” agency you can bet they will be screaming.

Matt, I wasn’t really referring to the form itself as much as the NICS check you must go through. I guess where I was going with this is if you get caught by the Feds at any point even though it is legal in your state you will have a “drug charge” against you, which will show up on a NICS check and be a reason to deny you the purchase. Not sure if this will happen, but again, there were some reports that this was the direction they would go on it.
