- Loving a bad dog. (Oh yeah. Been there …)
- News of the weird. Shelley’s Ozymandias. Um … with socks.
- Wall Street deals in physical commodities. Commodities producers operate hedge funds and sell derivitives. And there, and there, and there go the trillions.
- I really like Ricky Gervais and I want to see this.
- For anybody who still doubts that Edward Snowden did the right thing.
- Won’t get anywhere. Not enough. But the Surveillance State Repeal Act is a start.
- Yes, we already know that the fedgov is run not merely by narcissists but by full-blown sociopaths. Still, this Salon piece about the “appalling narcissism” driving Syria intervention gives pretty good insight into the mentality (and destructiveness) of do-gooders.
- Spencer W. Morgan reminds us that government power is an illusion we can break.

Oh yeah… There are no “bad dogs.” Sometimes you just have to dig a little… and sometimes you just have to believe it in spite of everything.
I had an aggressive dog once, also an Australian Shepherd mix. He was incredibly aggressive from the time he got his eyes open, and went on to be a truly unholy terror. Since we had lots of dogs and puppies, and none of the rest of the litter were anything like him, I believed that there was something really wrong with his brain to make him so vicious. He did not accept any other animal, or any human, and could not be let out of his kennel.
He was not quite a year old when I had to reluctantly accept the fact that he would have to be put down. He had bitten me badly several times and I was in terror that he would harm one of my small boys. I just couldn’t see any other option.
I have had to euthanize two old dogs since, to stop their suffering, but I’ll always remember “Blue,” and wish I’d known what to do for him so he could be a truly good dog.
I’ve driven past those legs with socks many times. I didn’t realize the socks were vandalism, I thought they were supposed to be there. I thought it was a tribute to some basketball player or something- I believe that’s what I had been told. Oh well.
If anyone used that DownsizeDC system to send an email asking their rep to co-sponsor HR 2818, check your inbox for confirmation. They sent emails to my SENATORS asking them to co-sponsor a HOUSE bill. While I’d like them to sponsor equivalent Senate legislation, a specific request to co-sponsor a bill in the wrong house may be… counter-productive.* You may need to manually send the request to the correct rep.
I’ve pointed this out to the DownsizeDC folks, too.

* Honestly, asking my senators to seriously oppose the NSA is already pretty counter-productive.
Good catch, Bear; I hadn’t noticed that. Still, it does get the message across and perhaps a staffer will read it and get a little bit of education. And I agree with your footnote: one of my senators is Lindsey Graham. ‘Nuff said.
Love the socks!
Why lobby for this legislation? Something tells me it’s just a fantasy, even if it passes. Just window-dressing, allowing us peons to go to sleep again (sorry for the mixed metaphors). It won’t stop NSA spying.
I like Spencer Morgan’s recipe more. Ignore the state.
