- I know there’s absolutely nothing funny about a fatal mudslide, as the people of Oso, Washington, are learning to their horror. But at least there’s a certain strangely poetic justice to this mudslide in China.
- Government priorities. I swear, anybody as witty as Tam ought to have a late-night show of her own and be getting fabulously rich and famous.
- The homeless guy and the ATM jackpot.
- “Stop adding up the wealth of the poor.” Y’know, when you explain it that way, I see your point.

This whole “rich” and “poor” thing makes me tired. One man’s meat is another man’s poison. And it isn’t anybody’s business which they call it unless they stole it from someone else.
I have life, relatively good health, a home, a reasonably loving family, many wonderful friends and neighbors, and zero debts. Makes me a very, very “rich” woman, in my estimation. I just don’t have any money. Oh well. 🙂
I envy the guy who could speak the accents so well. When deliberately trying to speak an accent or dialect, the effort is laughable ― but often pick up an accent unintentionally when moving to a new region (such as the South or New England). I guess it has to be “natural” before I can conquer it.
Ken/Barbie: Dear god, those people are creepy, but I’m glad they’re around. Compared to them we’re all completely normal.
I’ve occasionally wondered how British people have managed to hang on to their regional accents so tenaciously.
Ken is still pissed because Barbie ran off with GI Joe and took Ken’s house, car and boat with her.
I find this very reassuring:

The rich vs poor thing is an example of the study of humanity. I don’t think humans ought to be studied. Statistics sometimes seems to be that branch of mathematics devoted to enlarging government. Any time somebody calls me to get my opinion for a study, I hang up. I even got multiple calls from CDC not long ago for this reason, they were quite persistent. The instant the person announced he or she was from CDC the phone went back on the hook.
Indeed, Paul. I foolishly volunteered to be part of a “nurse study group” early in my career and filled out a silly survey several years in a row. We were not given any idea just WHAT they were trying to study, of course, and the questions got more idiotic each time, so I formally withdrew. They continued to send me mail for many long years.
I’ll get interested when I can find a concealed-carry Barbie.
