- Does it strike anybody else that these “enchanted” (or enhanced) versions of everyday objects are mostly annoying, infantilizing, or both? (Do like the luggage tracker, though!)
- Wow. Lawnorder. Protect and serve. A pair of cop parents collude to kill their daughter’s boyfriend — immediately after meeting him. (H/T MtK)
- Oh panic! Oh hysteria! Oh, Fox how could such an idiotic article have made it past your BS filters? Somebody, somewhere, sometime might carry a gun into a bank. Which would be deadly! Catastrophic! And cause firefights to mow down innocents! (Never mind that we don’t have a single fact to back our “expert” assertions.) Oh, the horror. Quick! Bring me my smelling salts! (Tip o’ hat to LA)
- Bob Owens: Walmart SWAT-ing looks worse every day. That poor guy.
- Okay, I know you’re busy giving all your spare cash to ME. And of course that’s as it should be ;-). JKJKJK. But pal Nicki has a fundraiser going for her local animal rescue. You might want to take a look. It started as a “save my cat” plea, but when the beloved kitty didn’t make it, she started directing the contributions to charity.
- Speaking of Nicki, she’s done an aaaaaa-freakin’-mazing job with JPFO social media. But I don’t know how she stands to engage up close and personal with those chronic hoplophobics.
- And speaking of cats, how ’bout a war-driving kitteh? Yikes!
I’ll be back with more later on yesterday’s “defining ourselves” post. Apologies for the abrupt and wandering conclusion. I was blogging after my usual bedtime last night and suddenly realized my brain wasn’t keeping up with my keyboarding fingers.

I seem to see a commonality here re today’s posted items. Looking at them I see a real disconnect if you will regarding reality. These antigun people, the two cops, the idiot at Walmart….they all seem to be in a sort of bubble. In fact, their actions are based on some sort of indoctrinated thought process. Seems today thse kind of people are almost like little kids…they hear or read something and without checking totally immerse themselves to act or believe the garbage they are told or taught. Looking back to when I was a kid, we didn’t have anywheres near the idiocy of today. With all of our technology we have regressed into well….pure stupidity. Seems all most of the brainwashed liberals feel they need to be “protected” against any and everything that could possible harm them or do away with their views. They seem to be unable to use common sense and provide their own protection as well as having any ability to be self sufficient. We have turned from a country of independent people to little more than progamed paranoid loonies. No! I am not talking about things that could harm us, such as some wacko terrorist…I am talking about paranoid health nuts, rediculous laws limiting parental child control and discipline and such. Intrusion by the various departments of our goverrnment into our lives in order to save us from ourselves as it were. Laws against this…laws against that. As an example, if someone were to cut their fingers off using a skill saw…being that dumb, well then too bad, someone dumb enough to do that deserves it.
I didn’t see any gadgets that would appeal to me. Too much information and too much communication that I wouldn’t control. The luggage thing would be fine if you really needed to know that it was on a plane to Calcutta… but you could probably find that out easily enough without the gadget.
Now… to gadgets I would like to have:
A control on the microwave that would freeze something as fast as it thaws things.
Better controls – with some kind of alert – on the washer and dryer so I would be less likely to leave the water level low when I put in the next full size load… or leave the dryer on “gentle” when I loaded it next time with towels.
How about a smoke alarm that knows the difference between a fire and toast…
Funny story about carrying in banks… when I applied for my Florida CWP, I needed to get my application notarized. I didn’t want to pay when I could get it done free, so I went to my bank and asked one of the cashiers, who was also a notary, to do it. I honestly wasn’t sure if she’d do it or not.
She went “Oh, this is for a CWP? No problem,” smiled, and notarized it. As it turns out, the county shooting range is named after the family she married into, so she’s no stranger to firearms.
She never did ask me after that if I was carrying or not, but I felt comfortable telling her I went shooting on a particular weekend, or was attending the NRA Annual Meeting, so I’m pretty sure she knew.
And gosh golly gee, not a single gunfight has erupted there in the two years I’ve been carrying!
The manager at my bank open carries, as I do… no problems so far. 🙂 I can just imagine what would happen if some dumb twit tried to rob our bank… he’d have so many guns pointed at him he’d die of fright right there. No telling how many of those cute young tellers are discreetly heeled as well as the customers.
More silly hoplophobes who can’t believe that simply being in the presence of a gun will not harm anyone.
“How about a smoke alarm that knows the difference between a fire and toast…”
Or popcorn kernels cooking (Yes, this really happened!).
Or candles burning… I couldn’t burn candles in three different residences unless I turned off the alarm first. By now I’ve been properly Pavloved not to use candles except those flickering LED ones.

In Montana where you cannot carry concealed into a bank, is it permissible to open carry? Does anyone know? (Just wondering if TPTB contradicted their own laws and didn’t cover all bases.)
That facebook coffee table looks like it could create some pretty awkward moments
“Vessyl is a smart cup that identifies what kind of liquid you’re drinking and lets you know how many calories and how much sugar, fat, protein, sodium, and caffeine are in that drink.”
I just checked their site. Pre-order it for $99.
Why would I pay $99 for a coffee cup (which holds a mere 13 ounces) that always gave the caffeine level as “Not enough, drink more coffee. NOW!!!”?
Why would one pay $99 for a small coffee cup that nags you, when Moochie Obama will do it for free?
Claire, OT but when oh when is JPFO going to do something about its extremely frustrating web page? It’s impossible to navigate to anything new. I know you guys have a bunch of great writers who are producing lots of excellent material, but the only way I ever see any of it is when you highlight it here. I go to JPFO.ORG hoping to maybe plug one of these neat new articles, and I simply can’t find them. The “articles” button leads only to an archive.
I know I’m computer clueless, but they need to stop playing where’s waldo with their new material.
Joel, I hear ya. The website is somewhere so far beyond bad that There Be Dragons. Everybody knows it. But with JPFO still in recovery mode, the budget’s simply not there for a re-do.
However, you can find the new material through the alerts archive (rather than the articles archive, though some of it’s there, too). I’ll go find you that link. Hang on.
http://jpfo.org/alerts.htm
Here’s where you find the way in to all the new material — not to mention all the alerts going back to 2000 or so. There’s also a link for subscribing to the alerts.
Re: article on technojunk… It’s technojunk…
Re: Faux News “guns in banks, oh my!”
I used to go into my bank in Cody, carrying openly. Everybody managed to survive these events, if they even noticed at all… I’d be embarrassed to cite Faux News for anything other than to point at their idiocy.
Re: Walmart SWATting
I don’t know if Ritchie should be prosecuted (can they prosecute for stupidity?) but the cops should end up in jail. I suspect they won’t which is great for those cops, but there is always a cost to such results, a cost that is not always obvious. Yet another fraction of observers will finally give up their belief in the established Government Religion.
Claire, when we get done raising your roof, maybe we can do a fund raiser of our own to help JPFO with their dragons…
Thanks, Claire for being so kind and helping me raise money for the local homeless animals rescue team (HART). These guys are pretty amazing, and anything I can do to help them – or you guys for that matter – will go a long way!
RE: the JPFO web page… I’ve asked and gotten permission to play with the design and make it pretty. I haven’t the slightest idea how to make it “go live,” but if I can redesign it and help it not give folks seizures, it will be a lot less expensive. So I’m playing with various designs. We shall see what happens with that. It’s definitely an issue I hope to help resolve in some way!
Nicki! That’s great of you. I don’t know where you get the energy. But thank heaven for you. You’ve been the most huge asset to JPFO.
I think I’ll pass on the luggage tracker. The TSA already opens my checked bag every time I fly without a handgun in it. Maybe I should start a collection of the notices they leave.
Vessyl would be a lot more interesting if it could spot rohypnol, etc.
Couple of gadgets I would like:
An alarm on cars that would say, “You’ve been driving for over a mile with your turn signal on” and another for, “Your windows are up and your AC going and your sound system is blasting, but there’s an ambulance behind you that’s kinda in a hurry.”
ML, I have a sister-in-law for whom there is no difference between fire and toast.
My youngest daughter had a couple of boyfriends that… Particularly The Felon. But she climbed the learning curve and we have a great SIL.
Used to be four or five unsecured networks that popped up on my home computer. I did a “you’ll never guess how many…” thing at a neighborhood watch meeting, which solved the problem.
At least JPFO is working on a comments feature. That’s better than Fox. It’s really frustrating to get to the end of something as vulnerable as the bank article and not be able to return fire.
The Wal-Mart article proves that there is such a thing a an ex-marine.
Good luck, Nikki. I designed and manage a couple of simple sites, so if you have a question let me know.
LarryA – thanks! I may take you up on that! The comments feature on JPFO is up, BTW. Enjoy!
@MamaLiberty:
Pick up a couple of cloths pins or binder clips. Put one on each machines selector knob as a reminder to check the settings before you start the loads.
I can certainly try that, Hanza. Thanks!
Actually I found one car gadget I really like – auto-dimming rear view mirrors. I thought that would be silly, but found when driving at night it reduces the irritation. Now I wish the outside mirrors were that way.
On the other hand, the automatic hill hold feature drives me nuts. Don’t people know how to use a hand brake? Fortunately there is a way to disable the feature.
I wish cars had exhaust fans connected to a solar cell, so your car doesn’t turn into an oven on a hot day.
I can walk to the Walmart where Mr. Crawford was shot. It does seem like they’re stalling to let tensions cool down. We’ll be keeping an eye on this here.
937 — Thank you. It’s been dismaying to see the Walmart/Crawford shooting totally eclipsed by the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson. Both deserve to have spotlights shone on them! Please, please keep us posted here if you learn of local developments that aren’t getting covered.
