Narco cops as narco crooks

For your reading “pleasure.” How a gang of borderland narco cops just loooooved their jobs so much they became major narcotics thieves. And of course used their cop power, cop equipment, and cop cover to do it all.

You kinda get the impression they’d happily do it all again, too.

Vice wars. They corrupt everybody they touch. Always have, always will. Long, but interesting article.

    You know what I’m real tired of hearing? This;

    “especially the majority of officers who are honest cops”

    Prove it. This unfounded sentiment has a basis in reasonable thought, a fair offering. But only if it can be found true. I no longer believe.

    I agree. My first thought at the title to this thread was, “So what else is new.”

    I also agree. But I think that writers throw out this obligatory line in the same way superstitious people used to call pesky fairies and leprechauns “the good folk.” It’s just a talisman against evil, a way of saying, “Don’t hurt me.”

    But yes, it comes across as a ridiculous thing for an investigative journalist to say, since there’s no evidence of that “vast majority” of cops being so wonderful, and no real need to make such a remark if they actually ARE that wonderful.

    Define “honest cop.” All police (and so many others) work for the state. The state, therefore, is their source of income and security. They are obligated by every norm to be loyal to the state and to follow its directions. The only “honest cop,” therefore, is one that actually obeys the state directives in every particular, and demonstrates no resistance to it.

    So, what does that have to do with their relationship to non government employees, us mundanes? Everything. And if we expect the cops to demonstrate resistance to tyranny, even giving mundanes the “benefit of the doubt” type discretion, then we are not asking for “honest cops,” but for rebels and oath breakers – since their loyalty and oath is actually to the state and does not hing in the least on what they are required to do.

    Mundanes simply must get over the idea that the police, or any government employee, actually works for “the people” or can be expected to act in any way contrary to the state monopoly on power and force.

    To clarify… ” since their loyalty and oath is actually to the state and does not hing in the least on what they are required to do. ”

    Meaning that their status as “honest cops” does not hing on the “good” things mundanes expect the cops to be doing instead of supporting and defending the state monopoly on violence.

    The southwestern border areas have always been like that, even when there’s no contraband involved. In the old days rustlers would steal horses in Mexico and sell them in the US, and then other rustlers would steal cattel and sell them in Mexico. Today: Guns, money, stolen cars move to Mexico; and dope, migrants, Rx drugs, come to the U.S. ; fugitives, both ways. That’s the nature of borders. Stuff flows to where the price is high and the supply is low. These cops would have been crooks whatever the side of the border they were born in my opinion.

    Had a friend, now retired, years ago who worked for a federal agency along the border. His sole occupation for several years was investigating and arresting federal agents that chose to take bribes, look the other way, steal money or drugs.
