- Time to do another emergency update on your flash player. (H/T MJR)
- A modest proposal for economically illiterate New York Times opinionists.
- Now that the Nazgul have (probably) ensured the future of Obamacare, even liberal media feel it’s safe to point out the obvious.
- It appears there may be a link between SSRI antidepressants and birth defects. But not to worry. Even though some SSRIs may more than double your baby’s chance of being born without a brain, it’s still a small risk.
- Even if you’re born with a brain, you’re hardly out of the woods. Childhood stress alters our DNA.
- Sorry; I’m a bit behind with this. But over at TZP, I write about resistance to deadly evil. Even by those who are armed only with principles and outrage.
- If you’ve wondered whatever became of great freedomista SF writer Victor Koman, Wendy McElroy points to an update: after many rough years Victor’s closing in on his Ph.D and could use some assistance.
- And in your eeew, ick, but wow news of the day: Carnivorous plants communicate with bats.

And, for your “awwwww” moment of the day, 2-year-old Aurora girl goes swimming in bucket of white paint.
And dangit, Joel has me jonesing for an air rifle. 🙂
I don’t look at videos anyway, but did notice that everywhere they show up on line, instead of a picture lately there’s been a blank space with a warning that my video player needed an update.
Ok… it had been a while since I allowed any update, so I let it rip. Now I have the pictures back. About freaked out when it seemed the GnuPG was changed at Thunderbird email… but I finally figured it out. The update did its usual thing and moved stuff around, changed location of some of the controls. I really hate that. sigh
Mine has been saying that for a while. At my age, I only have the nerve to let it rip once in a great while. I can go a little while longer, I think.
Remember to set your browser to ‘click to play’ for plugins like flash. This way you can’t be immediately exploited when visiting their page even if your player is old. This also prevents other attacks like flash cookie tracking for ‘advertising’ purposes.
I have “Shockwave Flash” version 11.2.202. I’m not sure this is the same thing as the one with the bug? I haven’t noticed any blank spots or warnings.
Here are the gory details of the Flash CVE – http://www.cvedetails.com/cve/CVE-2014-0578/
Thanks, it looks like mine is the version where the correction was made. Ubuntu linux is pretty good about getting updates out fast.
There are a lot of things a little more pressing, and a few things a lot more pressing than buying Victor a PhD. GoFundMe OffendsMe. It wasn’t a long time ago when asking for a handout was the last thing a person wanted to do, but that has changed, I guess. Digitized panhandling.
Here’s another project for all you knitters in the audience.
They’re getting really aggressive.

DID YOU HEAR THE GOOD NEWS?!?!?!
http://www.shareonfb.com/pfqq04/Whedon_Confirms_Firefly_Getting_Reboot_With_Original_Cast
winston — Unfortunately, Snopes says it ain’t so. Pity. Wouldn’t you just love to see it again (even with a new cast, if Whedon could perform the same kind of magic)?
Did you hit the link? You might get a surprise.
I admit I didn’t click on the link. Sorry, winston. I now get that you’re in on the joke. But I’m soooooooo tired of Firefly rumors I don’t even look any more.
I’m the worst kind of person 😀
“GoFundMe OffendsMe.”
I’m glad not everybody hereabouts feels that way. I didn’t use GoFundMe, but last year generous support from blog readers was the only thing that saved me from a leaky (and later partially collapsed) roof.
As to Victor Koman, he’s a terrific writer who did very poorly with his novels, largely because they were niche books for thoughtful freedomistas.
Most people would be shocked if they knew how little writers make from their works, especially in these Internet days.
