Friday links

I’m working on something I hoped to have ready this morning, but given the last few days, I expect you won’t be surprised I’m behind on it. Meantime, here are some links.

And thank you for the warm, wise, empathetic comments about Robbie. So many of you have hit the mark so perfectly — and so many of you have been here yourselves. I don’t yet have the heart to respond in comments, but I’ve read the last couple of comment sections over and over. I can’t tell you how much it helps.

  • That this is outrageous, racist, murderous, and wrong in every way does not make this any less racist, less murderous, less wrong, or less outrageous.
  • Bravo! Well said. I’d like to see The Zelman Partisans be allowed to sign on to this statement.
  • Oh wow. Another creepy example of the violence of the allegedly anti-violent.
  • Jim Bovard: technology does more good for the environment than government regulation.
  • Okay, the writer has an agenda. And there’s more than a whiff of pop psychology about this. But given that we might soon have an elitist boarding-school boy as president, it’s worth a read. How boarding schools create heartless, insecure, defensive, overly reactive leaders.
  • Judge Napolitano on the Clintons beating the rap once again. Complete with examples of individuals who were prosecuted for similar, but lesser, actions.
  • And finally, dog stuff. From Shel in comments: Louis Awerbuck eloquently memorialized his warrior cocker spaniel. From Pat in comments: a little deaf girl teaches sign language to her little deaf puppy. (I’ve fostered three, maybe four, deaf herd-breed dogs and without exception they’ve been devoted, attentive, and alert learners.)

NSA classifies Linux Journal readers, Tor and Tails Linux users as “extremists”

Are you a Linux Journal reader or use software such as Tor and Tails Linux? If so, you’ve probably been flagged as an “extremist” by the NSA. Leaked documents related to the XKeyscore snooping program reveal that the agency is targeting anyone who is interested in online privacy, specifically those who use the aforementioned software and visit the Linux user community website.

Possibly, I’m not processing quite right today, but there seem to be some contradictory statements in there.

If I downloaded my Tails ISO using BitTorrent, is that a double-whammy?

Interesting times indeed. Most of us have heard the expression; “no more free wacos”. It would seem the BLM has declared their tribe and the line not to cross. That the Second Civil War (if that’s what this is) would start like this is really no surprise. Who has the least to lose to the police state? I’m not judging or taking sides, study the facts, dump the emotions, prepare! Rule of law is dead.
Note to BLM, mind your target selection. If you start shooting random white people this will turn on you fast. Look at history, we don’t shoot each other, we organize into huge armies and burn whole fucking continents down. Again, not taking sides. This is no surprise, a well-armed people and a police state don’t coexist. Use caution.

It would seem the BLM has declared their tribe

I can see I’m going to have to adjust my thinking. For years, that’s been Bureau of Land Management to me. Of course, in the coming troubles, the Fed. BLM might well be a player, or at least a target.

But, tribalism is what’s going to define the lines. And we have so many divisions in the U.S. to divide over. It ain’t going to be pretty, and a lot of us who just want to be left alone to live our lives are going to be caught in the middle.

Oh, that BLM has declared their tribe and their targets as well. They have drawn lines all over the map to declared it in the name of the king.

Family, trusted friends, tribe, prepare. The rule of law is dead.

The “rule of law” has been dead for years, replaced by the law of rules. Claire it’s time for another updated and hard hitting perspective on how mala prohibita rules, enacted by elected officials, has turned this nation into a police state and replaced Peace Officers, a formerly honored profession, with law ENFORCEMENT officers. This one aspect of modern American society has done more harm than all others, combined. America needs to be reminded of why.

BLM didn’t murder anybody (though the same can’t be said of the police) the word out of Dallas is that BLM aided police in the capture of the gunman, a lone actor and Army veteran.

The creepy “psychologist” is right that boarding schools are crap.

But his bullshit that anyone who doesn’t want their country ruled by tyrannical socialist bureaucrats must be a headcase shows what a laughable git the bloke is.

A mind-controlled leftist creep whining about the damaged minds of others when his own skull is filled with leftist poison.

@David: point taken, but #BLM has other faces.
CHAOS IN ST. PAUL=> POLICE INJURED After #BlackLivesMatter Attacks Cops With Rocks, Rebar, Bottles, Fireworks, Molotov Cocktails.

So, what am I to believe about the character of #BLM? That they’re too incohesive to predict? Are they a tribe? If I want to be informed and prepared for a future where I think there will be societal collapse, what prudent judgements do I make, given what I’ve been reading over the past year or so?

I’m well aware of the problem of painting with too broad a brush. As an older white male gun owner, I recognize that many people will lump me in with Neo-Nazis, or label me with some other inclusive and derogatory term. The question, in my mind, for the future, is how does one distinguish? To use the example of the moment, how can I tell the difference between a peaceful #BLM member, and one who is likely to resort to violence? If someone self-identifies as #BLM, are they not associating themselves with the St. Paul protestors?

This is a thorny question. And one without easy answers. Here in the U.S., we don’t have much in the way of stark identifieable divisions, e.g. Serb / Croat or Tutsi / Hutu. We can try, with such things as Statist, but that’s not likely to be useful in a future marked by balkanization and tribalism, if that’s where the U.S. ends up. We can posit several tribes, such as MS13 and LaRaza. I believe that many of these will divide along racial and ethnic lines. There will be many others of course. I hate to put it in these terms, but if things do go to hell in handbasket, that’s going to be a component of reality on the ground.

“I suppose the sheep are supposed to be somewhat pacified, if the sheep can be tricked into believing that the big wolf packs out there had nothing to do with that one wolf that just darted in to rip out a throat.”

No linky. Guys a Republican, mostly but sometimes get it pretty right.

@Jed: I have a friend who lives a block away from where that protest was. She said the BLM was begging people NOT to go to the protest, because it was being organized by an unknown 3rd party, and that people were being bussed in from outside for the express purpose of causing trouble.

I don’t think the BLM is all sunshine and roses, but I also think someone is using their name as a cover to start a war.

    @Ellendra

Also point taken, but how are others supposed to know the difference? This is the unfortunate and dangerous situation I see in a possible future. It isn’t the future I want. It isn’t the future MLK wanted either.

You have to wonder, who are these agents provocateur, and what do they expect to gain from all this?
