Edward Snowden to speak on Trump presidency and privacy at StartPage event

Well, that was fun. While you can’t exactly say the good guy won last night, politics-wise (Trump acolytes on Gab.ai are already planning the wall building and the roundup of my former neighbors from the old flatlands house and we’re likely to see tired authoritarian hacks like Guiliani, Gingrich, and Christie — ick — in power), the bad guys certainly got a giant punch in their snooty, elitist, entitled noses. And “the people” sure spoke loud and clear, even if millions don’t grok how poorly their message will ultimately be received.

I’m dealing with some medical stuff right now (nothing serious; just time-and-energy consuming) and might be out of it for a few days while everybody else does all the delicious commenting. But here’s something you can look forward to. Big event. Put this on your calendar for tomorrow this afternoon.

Edward Snowden to Weigh in on Trump Presidency and Privacy at StartPage.com Event
November 10 post-election Snowden livestream will be historic says StartPage CEO

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – November 9, 2016 – What is the future of privacy under newly elected US President Donald Trump? Edward Snowden will address questions like these in a StartPage.com special live post-election event on Thursday, November 10.

The free livestream will be available at https://www.startpage.com/snowden/ starting at 4:30 PM Eastern time. The feed will be broadcast from the Pathé Tuschinski in Amsterdam where Snowden will be patched in to a live theater audience via satellite transmission from Moscow.

“There is no one better than Edward Snowden to comment on how recent world developments like the US election will affect consumer privacy,” said StartPage CEO Robert Beens. “This will be an historic event, and we are honored he accepted our invitation.”

Snowden became world famous after he handed journalists classified documents detailing the global espionage activities of the United States National Security Agency (NSA). His exposure of covert government surveillance put privacy firmly on the map, but also put him at great risk. Snowden was forced to flee the US in 2013 to avoid arrest and currently resides in Russia, where he has been given asylum.

“Edward Snowden’s revelations about government spying and mass data collection are of crucial importance to our society, but he had to sacrifice his free life for it,” said Robert Beens, CEO of StartPage.com. “We are proud to honor his service and bring his privacy message to the world.”

The Freedom of the Press Foundation and Edward Snowden’s attorney Ben Wizner of the ACLU’s Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project have been instrumental in helping make this historic event possible, Beens said. He also expressed gratitude to Amnesty International and PardonSnowden.org for spearheading a petition drive that calls on US President Barack Obama to pardon Snowden before leaving office in January 2017.

Whatever you have is hitting the rest of us 60-somethings;hope you get over it also.

The best description of this someone said is that it was a revolution without guns.

Let’s hope the odious people who seem to have his ear won’t really have it. That Megan doesn’t seem like a lunatic, they call her the Trump whisperer.

Whatever I have will be fixed by minor surgery tomorrow and probably a week or so of moping about in pain (but with heaps of good novels and DVDs). I hope you get over whatever’s hit you.

As to Trump, it would be great to see him bring in some new people with new energy and liberty-minded ideas. I won’t hold my breath on that. But if all he ever does is upset the elitists, then appoint decent Supreme Court justices, he’ll still have Hillary beat hands down.

Nothing changes IMHO; government will grow bigger and freedom will grow less while we are heading down the path of serious economic maladies. I do hope Trump is a better person than I think him to be but it ain’t nothing I would wager anything of value on..

You are probably right. Increasing the military…unbelievable, really, building a wall, and deporting immigrants are pretty bad things to hang your hat on.

But at least we don’t get a nuclear war.

I’m glad based solely on the Supreme Court.

I’m not religious, but I’m praying he doesn’t nominate Christie for AG.

The DNC did more than anyone else to elect Trump. If they’d just followed the rules, not interfered and not cheated, Bernie Sanders would have gotten the nomination and won (not that that was my preferred outcome).

Woke up in the middle of the night last night with the certain knowledge that the race had been called for Trump. I knew because there was a certain foreboding that I had not had before. The thought in my mind was, “be careful what you ask for……”

The Israelites decided they just ‘had’ to have a king, so God gave them Saul. Just saying.

I figure that the amount and high emotion of the negativity toward Trump on the part of the media and of the uppercrust of the RNC meant that most likely he was a guy you could go drink a beer with. When arrogant twits target somebody, he’s likely more of a “just folks” character and personality type–regardless of the size of his billfold.

Running against a professional termagent who’d lost an early job because of a lack of ethics–and she went downhill from there. Lying, temper tantrums, blaming others for self-induced problems, outright felony theft (from the White House, remember?) and then her happiness at the bloodshed in Libya.

Ain’t no damned way Trump could bottom all that.

Will be borrowing that one, don’t ya know!
