  • Jim Bovard reminds us that fearmongering presidents aren’t any shiny new thing.
  • Well, isn’t that just so heartwarming. Kansas City (believe it or not a pioneer in the “smart city” movement), is sharing its data with other governments so we can all be that much smarter (and better surveilled and tracked).
  • But Borepatch believes Congress is doing the right thing when it comes to protecting us against warrantless searches of our data.
  • Seems the feddies have been trying to hide info on one of their misbehaving agents in the Cliven Bundy case.
  • “Doomsday Deferred.” I’m a tad late, but it’s a good takedown on the inflation perpetrated by those atomic scientists and their politicized clock. (H/T MJR)
  • Got a clear sky where you are? Got binocs or a telescope? Tonight we’ve got a triple treat in the sky: full moon, penumbral eclipse, and a comet passing by. You’ll need the optics to see the comet.
  • I wish my cat were this smart. Mine’s about as dumb as a cat-fur rug.
  • These cats aren’t smart ’cause actually they’re just paintings. But they sure are elegant. And it’s fun guessing which historical figure each kitty is supposed to represent.

But what is all this cat nonsense? Where are the dogs?

Right here, hangin’ out:

I had some friends who began to fear a poltergeist was screwing with their television. It kept apparently turning itself on when nobody was in the room. (This was in the olden days, before remote controls. When the earth was young and electronic devices had vacuum tubes.)

Their cat enjoyed lying on the warm TV when the family sat around watching it in the evening. And one day the lady of the house was in the room with the TV off when the cat jumped onto the TV, leaned down and started batting buttons until he hit the one that turned the TV on, and then laid down to enjoy the warm.

My dog recently attacked (barked & lunged is as much as he can get away with while walking with me) a snowman that had melted and had a animal look to it!

Life was a lot simpler before our gadgets were “intelligent.”

Not sure that I’d say that I think that Congress is protecting us, but this was a step in the right direction. I’m not confident of much more, but my expectations are so low that it’s easy for them to surprise me on the upside.

    😉
