- The dismal science of Richard Thaler (taking common knowledge and fancifying it into a Nobel Prize and potential public policy).
- Progressive writer tries desperately not to offend. Gets shredded, anyhow. Yes, America’s Red Guards are truly eating their own.
- Are we suffering “dream deprivation”?
- You probably don’t have to worry so much about the KRACK wifi vulnerability, unless you’re in a largish company or a particularly delicious location for bad guys. Still, A VPN could be helpful.
- Shall Texans’ new cry be, “Forget the Alamo!”?
- Why are authoritarian governments so interested in creating their own cryptocurrencies? (I don’t think it takes a genius to figure out that one.)
- Hollywood: perfect hunting ground for predators. (And “reform” will be about as effective as all those government “reforms” we’ve lived through.)

Richard Thaler is a University of Rochester alumnus and a former faculty member. Of course they were crowing about his Nobel prize.
I wondered why China was looking to ban bitcoin when so many of their people are profiting from it. I should have guessed that it was because they didn’t want it competing with their own cryptocurrency.
How can anyone be surprise that with the crap that comes out of Hollywood that the people that are creating that crap are crap themselves?
BTW I don’t really give a crap about Hollywood or 97% of the people who make it up!
IMHO these governments aren’t really talking about creating cryptocurrencies. What they want to do is pretend they have something of value to “trade” (at the point of a gun) for goods and services that do have real value. It’s like printing dollars without the bother of actually running a printing press.
People control is a side benefit.

Try this out: Born of Hope

“… and therefore it vastly enlarges the areas of life in which people can be effectively managed.”
Since the entire concept smacks of 80’s pop-psych, ivwould be interested in the origin of the idea of behavioral economics. The idea quoted above makes it sound as if it came from the Frankfurt School of commie thought. As bogus and intellectually valid as all of that is, it nevertheless seems to creep into things that should be immune to such political stupidity.
I love born of hope and the independent film making community.
Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana was a dictator, which is why quite a few Mexicans fought alongside the Texicans in the war for independence. The city of Seguin is named after Juan Seguin, one of the revolutionaries. Many revolutionaries were of German descent; my g-g-uncle Capt. Frels was one; his legacy was the village of Frelsburg.
Legend has it that Santa Anna was descended from a long line of bachelors.
A friend of mine was a bit-player in the IMAX movie of the Alamo. Those people were one day as Mexican soldiers; the next as Texicans. Lots of splicing and editing. He said that he died three times as a Texican and twice as a Mexican. He swore that in one splicing he killed himself.
