Robespierre’s Law

When LarryA submitted this graphic to the meme contest (now ended at the Cabal, though intriguing memes are still coming in), I first assumed that Robespierre’s Law was already a thing.

It’s certainly a truth known to freedomistas everywhere, though both “left” and “right” remain oblivious to it.

But no. Robespierre’s Law may be a well-known yet eternally disregarded truth, but Larry seems to be the first to have named it and memed it. I hope he does more with this.

About the infamous Maximilien Robespierre: His Wikipedia entry; Robespierre and the Terror.

The funny thing is, even today if you look up quotes by this murderous example of Governmental Man, you might think you’re reading remarks from some deep-dyed freedom fighter. He’s a perfect example of power corrupting — and power destroying.

This is one of the better memes I’ve seen on the Cabal. So apropos. So significant in today’s upheaval.

So many names could be substituted for Robespierre’s, but none of them with his originally-good intentions.

As I said on the Cabal, linking it to an about-to-be-world-famous book is a good first step.

Remember, as always, that it was Robespierre and Couthon who invented the words “terrorism” and “terrorist,” and Marat who popularised them- to describe the Committe of Public Safety, ie themselves and their mission, the first modern industrialised mass murder. The term was gleefully and entirely unironically used to describe the first modern, systematised attempt at genocide- the “pacification” of the Vendee, which led to the deaths of around 35,000 soldiers on each side, but accompanied by around 200,000 civilian deaths, possibly more. The so-called “infernal columns” led by Gen Turreau accounted for 40,000 of those deaths themownselves.

Sorry for the hijack, but this is a pet peeve of mine. Leftists accuse pretty much any non-leftist who permits defensive violence against State actors of terrorism, when it was they who invented the term and practice of modern terrorism in the first place. It’s like arguing with a hardcore zionist- Sabra/Shatila and the King David Hotel were unfortunate one-offs, carefully planned military operations with associated collateral damage, etc etc…but a peaceful demonstration by anti-zionist Hasidim is support for terrorism and should be shut down with force. Lefties never admit to the existence of leftist terrorism, yet they invented the word to describe their own plans and actions!

Another casualty of historical ignorance is the ability of the State to change the meanings of words that much more easily.
