Okay, she says, rubbing her hands together. Time to run up the black flag and resume slitting metaphorical throats.

On the previous civilized life, methinks we currently are electing dinosaurs so the bigger question is whether or not life is civilized now?
I have it on good authority that Earth has been this way before, and some of the remnants of prior epochs are still hanging around. We are just too dumb and barbaric to associate with!
A crossbow in private hands, in England? I’m actually surprised they haven’t been banned already. Considering how they’re now going after knives over there, maybe they’ll go after archery too.
In the banning vein, this item just came through my news feed.
7 Prince George’s County elementary students cut wrists at school
Yes, let’s just ban everything! Especially learning and responsibility.
So, reading between the lines:
Seven students at an elementary school in Prince George’s County cut their wrists at school using blades from pencil sharpeners, according to officials. Officials with Prince George’s County Public Schools said a concerned parent at William Paca Elementary School in Hyattsville came forward on March 29 and an investigation was launched.
So apparently nobody at the school noticed that seven students cut their wrists until “a concerned parent came forward.” Which had to have been the day after students “cut” themselves, finished the school day, and went home.
It was revealed that the students used blades out of pencil sharpeners to cut themselves, officials stated. All seven students were seen by the school nurse and none of the children were taken to the hospital, according to officials.
“Cut their wrists?” It sounds more like they scratched themselves.
School counselors were brought in to speak with the students.
Because the school nurse couldn’t have a “this is stupid” talk with the kids?
Officials announced a ban on pencil sharpeners at the school in a message sent to parents on March 29.
Parent comes forward March 29, investigation was launched, sharpeners banned and letter drafted and sent March 29. That must have been a very thorough investigation. But they fixed the problem. There’s nothing else in school kids can use to hurt themselves. (Like pencils.)
[sigh]
Back in the day every kid I knew was carrying a pocketknife by fourth grade. But this is Maryland. Everything is illegal in Maryland.
