Labor Day weekend links, II

  • Did you have a favorite commentary by Mama Liberty? Nathan Barton, who shared the Price of Liberty blog with her until her death this summer, would love to hear from you.
  • Due process returns to campus.
  • Google and Master Card cut a deal to link in-store sales to online ads. Why are We the Marks always the last to know?
  • Gosh, what a surprise. Nobody accepted Bear Bussjaeger’s 3D AR Challenge.
  • Gotta give NPR credit. The blood dancers must have hated the results of their own research, but they did report honest results about the number of school shootings. Unlike what the fedgov did.
  • The Village Voice, co-founded by Norman Mailer, long-time home to the great civil libertarian Nat Hentoff, has closed.
  • “Nuance, a love story.” Too long and her marriage is less relevant than she thinks. But it’s another hopeful sign of a thinker moving away from dogma and intolerance.
  • Kanye West for president? Well, why the heck not? Every other publicity-seeking a-hole wants the job. (H/T MJR)
  • I don’t much care about the political flap over First Man, the new film about Neil Armstrong. But this is what Hollywood deserves. In general.
  • This one’s been around a while, but I’ll bet most of us didn’t know that in the olden days bears were fired out of ejection seats to test them. The seats, that is. The bears were merely convenient (and very large) guinea pigs. (Tip o’ hat to Shel)
  • Nurse discovers that her new colleague is the premature baby she cared for 28 years ago.
  • Husband sneaks dog into a hospital in a suitcase to say good-bye to his dying wife. Hankie time, for sure.
  • As if it weren’t already bad enough having an NSFW name

    About the AR-15 challenge.

I think it would be best to actually try printing everything you say, if only to demonstrate, remotely of course, why one would not want to shoot one personally. If only to show the idiots out there why it would be a bad idea.

A bear’s pelvis and spine are very similar to a persons. That was the reason.

I feel nothing good toward Holy Pole Quilt, but to leave that part out of a movie about the first moon landing is pretty dishonest. It’s like having a movie about Nazis and never showing a swastika. It happened, suck it up.
