At the fair

If you’re headed for the Mother Earth News Fair this weekend, I should mention …

Dave and Ilene Duffy will (as far as I know) be there all weekend. Show hours are 9-7 on Saturday, 9-6 on Sunday.

I’ll definitely be there all day Saturday. On Sunday you’ll find me there in the morning and early afternoon. Depending on how much is going on (or not), I may head for home before the end of the day.

TMEN has planned a great — and BIG — event, with lots to see and do. And they’ve given BHM what looks like an excellent booth space. Hope to see you there!

I do wish that I could be there but with living clear across the country and in another country (Canada) I just can’t afford it. I hope that you have a great time and sell lots and lots.

This is about the book Amerikan Sunset.

Yes, the title is spelled correctly for the book. Written by Jennifer Ladewig

    http://www.amazon.com/Amerikan-Sunset-Jennifer-Ladewig/dp/1552123189/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1307296790&sr=8-1

A very small and very light novel by a publisher not widely known. Don’t expect a ‘Ta Da Dun Dunnnn Super Militia Warrior’ story.

While it is set in a Socio-Economic Collapse, it is more of a light story about a woman trying to get from her family in Ohio to her fiance’s boat in Alabama. The reason for the Collapse is that America’s debts have been called in and the government defaulted. There have been some conflict for the woman trying to get down to Alabama. Like I said, it is very light, a book for the women (religious or otherwise) in your life that is not into guns, battles, Militias, or government of any kinds. It also has some romance, some drama, but it is mainly a book to show the women in your life how a Socio-Economic Collapse can happen without all the “usual male centric warrior fantasy craps” that is prolific amongst the ‘survivalist books’ set.

Women may enjoy the book, I think men will likely be bored, although I think the book conveyed a typical scenario that’ll likely happen
for most who survive such a crash.

Recommendation: If you have women put off by your concerns about the government, the economy, and preparations, then this may be the book to get them thinking about it. It shows what can happen, how it can happen, and more important what the results of it happening. It does all this without beating the reader over the head with it.

I do recommend getting the book through the used market if you can find a copy cheaply. This is not a book you’d want to pay “full price” for, otherwise you’ll feel cheated by such a light book, but for a small amount, may make it worth it.

Jim B. — Interesting. Never heard of it. Though the world doesn’t need one more “after the collapse” story, the perspective is intriguing (and even the fact that one of the two reviewers dismisses the book as “a silly love story with a disaster theme.”

First impression from skimming the online excerpt: The writer uses too many adjectives (always A Clue that the writing isn’t great). But could be a good action tale. Thanks for the recommendation.

“The writer uses too many adjectives (always A Clue that the writing isn’t great).”

But (someone) could use more Spellcheck…..
