Feds (and their fellows) taking an interest in your preps?

This came this morning from Daniel Adams of the wonderful “Facebook for farmers,” Earthineer. (Check it out if you haven’t already.)

“Federal Agents Demand Customer Lists from Mormon Food Storage Facility.”

Given the lack of detail in the report (which federal agency, which Mormon facility, and did anybody ask to see a warrant or a subpoena?) I’m not 100% sure it’s true.

But you and I can be 100% sure more than one fed agency wants to know who’s storing food or making other preparations for hard times — and that those they learn about will be considered potential “terrorists.”

Sometimes, these things are “innocent.” Yeah. As innocent as a sleeping viper.

Fifteen years ago, a detailless report of feds probing Mormons would have gone into the paranoia file. These days …? Well, no need to be paranoid. Just to be smart.

UPDATE: According to a SurvivalistBlog link posted in the comment section by Dennis, the Mormon cannery story is a fabrication. Kudos to the young lady who investigated the tale.

(— and that those they learn about will be considered potential “terrorists.”)

And also be considered potential sources for “emergency supplies” as well.

I agree Jim. However, it’s unlikely the Feds have to do this when the 2005 banking regulations signed by Bush allow them to peak at anyone’s accounts, for any reason. In fact unless you’re paying in cash, they already know who you are, which is why I don’t like buying fro the prepacked food supply people. If they are looking at these people and you buy $5000 worth of anything in cash, you’re already being investigated. Just the way they operate.

I caught this over at Global Guerrillas. What would happen if they did try and monitor and confiscate our food supplies? The problem with too much law enforcement/theft is it always creates blow back/unintended consequences. This woman wrote a paper on the drug wars in Mexico.

These points in particular got me thinking:

“4. The election of “law and order” politicians/parties at the local level increases violence. Here’s why: Law and order politicians increase police activity. Increased police pressure weakens the gang currently in control of a municipality. It usually doesn’t destroy the gang in charge (unless the police themselves become an informal militia that replaces the local gang’s economic role). A weak local gang is often attacked by new rival gangs intent on taking over the municipality. This means: gun fights/battles, lots of bodies, collatoral damage, kidnappings, etc..

    5. Spillovers: If a smuggling route can’t traverse a town due to a crackdown or congestion (too much drug traffic), it will reroute to an optimized alternative.”

Heavy handedness like overtly tracking food purchases will drive them further underground and make it harder to discover. I’m not saying the guv wouldn’t do this, but the results would be to make things worse for them. Just the tone of this article has me thinking about covering my tracks much better.

The only possible reason I can think the govt would want to know where the food stores are is for confiscation.

In WWII the Nazis did their best to control the food supplies in occupied territories. Any excess (they got to decide excess) was to feed German troops and would be seized. They also wanted control of food to keep it from going to the various partisan and resistance (bandits, brigands, and terrorists according to the propagandists) groups. It was bad enough that they confiscated hand crank grain mills so bread could not be made and smuggled out.

Interesting to note that everything our govvement does that violates basic humanity had it’s pre-cursor in the Fascist and Communist movements of the prior century.

“Interesting to note that everything our govvement does that violates basic humanity had it’s pre-cursor in the Fascist and Communist movements of the prior century.”

Interesting, but not surprising. Control freaks want one thing: control. There’s only one way to get absolute control, and that’s by takeover, which always violates basic humanity. Fascism and Communism were the most obvious and notorious takeovers during the last Century, and they gave American government the know-how to take over this country.

American government has had to take a circular route to get control because 1) the Constitution forbids it (in spite of Alexander Hamilton, et al), and 2) America is a gun-toting society which purpose was to prevent it ever being taken over by government again. Therefore fedgov has been insidiously working on an indirect, less obvious takeover — by law. (Fascism first, then frank jackboot control.)

I’m sure the major benefit of government’s stockpile knowledge will be to isolate (and ultimately eliminate) groups of non-traditional lifestyles — the Mormons, the Amish, isolationists, gulchers and homesteaders, and of course the survivalists. When they’re under control, what’s left are a few individuals without power, and entire enclaves (towns and cities) of “sheep” who have no knowledge or ability to function on their own.

Fedgov has been working on the Amish (trying to take their livlihood away) and the Mormons (by challenging their lifestyle) for some time. Now they will come after the rest of us. In the process of assessing our food/water supply, I’m certain they will focus in on arms and ammunition as well. How that will play out is anybody’s guess.

    “Interesting”, indeed.

The thing about paranoia is that sometimes they are really after you.

I agree that the lack of details in this report makes me doubt its authenticity. However having said that I don’t think for a second this is pure paranoia or fiction. As anyone that has read Ayn Rand’s “We The Living” knows tyrants know full well the best way to control the people is through starvation. Feed the supporters and starve the dissenters. It worked for Stalin and I am sure the same government thugs of today have at least thought about this and if there is any truth to this report this simply proves it.

I’ve also noticed that there is a concerted effort to label so called “Hoarders” as mentally ill and in need of intervention.

(In fact unless you’re paying in cash, they already know who you are, which is why I don’t like buying fro the prepacked food supply people.)

Which is why they’re checking with the Mormon food banks and such, to find those who paid cash. Control the stomachs of the people and you’ll have (mostly) control of the people.

Also, find enough people with big full pantries, and it’s a resource for their own uses.

It could be worse than we think. Worst case, the Watermelon left (green on the outside, red inside) assist the PE in finally taking over and acheive that single world government. PE lets the watermelons accidentally release the virus that will cause a world pandemic. To little virus, to late to save 10-20% of the world population. 10-20% reduction still not enough to please those wanting a sustainable population. Famine is the next step. Cause crop failure, drive people off the land, deprive anyone with the means to resis their food. Food stores will be confiscated by “hoarders” for the greater good, which will be the managers that work for the PE.

The link didn’t work for me so I couldn’t read the report, but if it’s true, Mormons everywhere should be in an outrage. Mormons should be especially wary of government interference, and distrustful of government in general. After all, who was it that enacted an “extermination order” to drive our predecessors from their homes? A corrupt state government. To think that the Federal government is any more benevolent than that of Lilburn Boggs is to be willfully blind. The government is not our friend, nor protector, and needs to be told to keep out of our business.

The reason they are doing this? fbecause they can! testing the waters perhaps to find out how easy it will be to take what people have produced. So far, zero resistance. Tells the powers that rule us just how effective their ”education” has been.

Sad that the story seems so plausible. Sadder still that we felt compelled to believe it.

Sorry folks. I had picked up the link on a mention from FTCLDF. I hadn’t checked the veracity of the article.

    I echo Pat’s sentiment though…

DA. No problem! Better to have a heads-up about a bogus story than to be so cautious that a real story goes unreported. Besides, even if this one thing wasn’t true, we can bet that the feds are interested in our preps. Other evidence points to that.
