While we’re just goofing around on a rainy Sunday … And speaking of rain, it’s often said that in the NorthWET climate, if you stand still too long, you’ll grow moss on your north side. In recognition of that, here’s a recipe for making moss graffiti. Really. Moss graffiti. Both these finds are courtesy of S, who must have been in an unusually unserious mood. —– Here’s another unintentional laugh from the NorthWET. Nothing to do with the climate this time; this one comes from government (that endless source of snorts and giggles). A reader writes to say: The other…
Category: Dogs and (grudgingly) cats
No description needed. Dogs are life. Cats are also necessary on the Internet.
Okay, so I was doing an image search for “frog eyes.” Yeah, maybe not the most common search. Not like looking for pictures of Justin Bieber or any random Kardashian. But when you’re doing art, sometimes you need to know these things. And I ran across this: Uh, not exactly what I was looking for. But a must-see, all the same. It took me a little longer to find its original source — which is here. And contains even more adorable oddities. And here we thought Joel’s Jayne Hat was as weird as it gets … Oh. Also. For the…
In the last week, instead of posting miscellany here at the blog, I’ve been taking it to Twitter. Matt suggested that in a comment and it’s definitely a good way to go. Contrary to some folks’ fears, you don’t have to join Twitter to read those tweets (100 and counting, including re-tweets). Just click the link in the stickied post up above. I don’t think that gives you the full picture, as following me (gods forbid, they really need a better term — flocking; flying; singing; migrating) on Twitter would do. But it’s a good way to get your miscellany…
Saturday, March 24, 2012. Stickied. Scroll down for newer posts. A couple of weeks ago I blogged about Sweetie, a deaf Australian cattle dog (blue heeler) in need of a home. Unfortunately, she’s had two homes since then — and seven since November. None have worked out. An ACD expert here in the northwest (where the breed is more common) says behavior problems that are mysterious and frightening to people unfamiliar with this very special dog are just normal, though unfortunate, reactions of an ACD neglected and under stress. The more she gets rejected, the worse Sweetie’s stress becomes. So.…
Now the gummint wants to predict the future. Given their fear of us, I suspect surveillance of us will play a large part. And their “predictions” will be just as wrong as their pernicious assumptions. Yep, I’d say that collection agency got just a tad bit out of hand. Hope that old lady beats the &^%$# out of ’em. “Spirit of a Racer in a Dog’s Blood” Oh, so this is where all those Downfall videos come from! Cubicleism: a new school of art. 🙂 (Actually, this guy does all these copies of classics on a white board. With dry-erase…
Shy? Grieving? You sicko, you. (Tip o’ hat to P.) This came from D. with the disgruntled comment, “Most of the people I know who got medals got shot.” It’s so much tidier being in the elite. Too bad hackers had to do this. Should be standard procedure. (Tip o’ hat to M.) Remember the cop who got fired for hanging and kicking his K9 partner? Well, it seems that the firing was a problem; the hanging and pummeling were just as the trooper always claimed — yes, standard procedure. (H/T to Fred.) A 12-year-old boy saves his grandma’s house…
Did you know there’s an organization called Dogs Against Romney? And that one of its members just got stopped by a cop for doing (in effigy) what Romney once did to his family dog? A courageous colonel busts hierarchy to tell truths about Afghanistan. (Tip o’ hat to M.) “Take that, Hobbes!” “Less lethal.” Yeah. In other words — more likely to be casually fired at people who irritate the cops. Help wanted at the TSA. 🙂 Oh, what to think? It’s a crime and a shame when innocent owners have their assets seized. But can they be called “innocent”…
But enough bad news. Since it appears we’re going to the dogs in any case, we might as well enjoy ourselves. Agility competitions for pipsqueak pooches. A writer whose specialty is dogs is saved by one. (H/T for this one!) Forty-two St. Bernards. Plus one tot. Adorable, but I’d hate to be the one who had to clean that yard. (H/T M.) And you may remember the foster dog who came to me in need of surgery to correct a rare birth defect. Well, he got his operation courtesy of our wonderful local vet, went into a prison-pet program for…
Well, so much for that itty bit that’s left of the First Amendment. Capitol cops arrest documentary filmmakers trying to film a public hearing. (Tip o’ hat to MJR.) Judge makes the right ruling for a change in the case of a cop who taped over his badge. Did you see this strange story about a 12-year-old girl being protected by lions? MamaLiberty, a firearms trainer (among her other skills), discusses thought processes, techniques, and legalities of armed self defense on the BrushFires of the Mind podcast. Apparently she’s becoming a regular for those of you who enjoy listening to…
… sometimes just by doing nothing to dogs. I have a house guest this weekend. Canine. Female. She’s angelically sweet, adores (and is submissive to) the other dogs, and wants nothing more than to love on and be loved. Unfortunately, in her 1-1/2 years, she’s had not one second’s worth of training. She’s boisterous, destructive, un-housebroken, doesn’t know a single command, and has borne at least one litter. She’s absolutely gorgeous and when I put her in my backyard kennel (which fronts on the local makeshift soccer field), she was immediately surrounded by neighborhood boys admiring her for all the…
