‘Nother reason to eat a nuts-n-berries diet. Or at least nuts, anyhow. Beaver steals gun. Chortle. One more v*te for shutting down Obamacare. This one from cybersecurity mavens. In the meantime, assuming you can buy insurance at all, maybe you can get it for free! It seems that the U.S. is developing a kind of ideal income level where you can a) live reasonably well while b) maximizing your tax-provided benefits. Millions more will surely aim for this welfare-state version of “success.” Cockapoo nation! But some proud traditionalists will not go happily into that EZ future. Anybody could have predicted…

The fourth shock wave of ObamaCare is about to strike And even Obama’s hometown paper says, “Stop digging, start over.” The Dallas Buyers Club is in my Netflix queue for sure. From everything I’ve read or heard, it’s a spectacular indictment of big government (specifically the death-dealing FDA) and a celebration of Outlaw entrepreneurism. That it stars Matthew McConaughey is merely a plus. Another long-time outdoors writer and sportsman who’s shocked to learn that laws passed against eeeeeeevvil gun owners also — oops! — apply to him. (H/T to LA) “Can’t we all just get along?” “Well, ah, no.” Mike…

Actions. Consequences. Lack of recognition thereof.

Her name is Adriana. No surname revealed. You know her better as the original smiling face of the Obamacare website. She now claims she’s being “cyberbullied.” What she really means is she’s become part of the political joke around The Big Failure. Cyberbullying? Hyperbole. We’re not talking death threats or threats to reveal her innermost secrets. We’re talking snide commentary. Still, I felt sorry for her. I figured she was just some stock photo subject or a model who signed a release without knowing how her mug was going to be used. Not her fault she became the Face of…

How many seconds would you have to die?

Outrage over the murder of Andy Lopez seems to have run its media course. And a short course it was. A few days. Even while the gunblogosphere was spreading the news that a California sheriff’s deputy had assassinated a 13-year-old boy for walking down the street with an Airsoft gun, the story was already being dismissed. One of the more conservative gunbloggers sniffed (I paraphrase), “Too bad. But after all, he refused to obey a police command.” Carl-Bear Bussjaeger blew that notion away with his terrible, moving, “10 Seconds to Die.” That poor kid, just minding his own business, was…

This has been making its way around the gunblogs. I wasn’t going to link it because I’ve never had reason to care what the head of Interpol thinks about anything. But reader L.A. tipped the balance. And really, it’s quite something when the honcho of a global police agency comes out in favor of a well-armed citizenry — and recognizes that the only alternative is making us all “safe” via a lock-down security state. 2016: Looking back on Obamacare. Seattle is using eminent domain to seize a valuable property from a 103-year-old lady. It’s currently a privately owned parking lot.…

Sure, it’s miles away from 3D printing metal guns. Ages. But this gadget is probably making the ATF nervous about the future. And maybe someday soon some far more advanced version will make gunfolk very cheerful. (H/T MJR) Okay. Short quiz: When’s the last time you felt your life was endangered by a Jack Russell terrier? A. Absolutely freaking never; are you kidding me? B. Once, when one was riding on the back of a charging Rottweiler. C. There was that time my ex tried to stuff a Jack Russell terrier down my throat; that was scary. D. When I…

“Dogs are people, too.” At least in their abilities to feel and anticipate — something that will come as no surprise to anybody who’s lived with them, but is apparently news in neuroscience. (Tip o’ hat to MLS) Federal theater of the absurd. (I also agree with Carl that the Crazy Horse monument is so superior to Mt. Rushmore in every way that even after the silly feddies remove the barriers I’d still just drive on past and watch free enterprise at work a few miles down the road.) Erm … I don’t usually read Glamour. But I found this…

Calling all gun gurus

My friend L wants to get a handgun. She has two problems. First: not much money. Second: bad hands. You saw her poor, misshapen paws in a blog post two years ago (scroll down for the closeup). Unfortunately, her trigger finger is in worse shape than any other. She knows how to shoot and recently took a brush-up course. She and I and she and the instructor talked about her needs. It boils down to: inexpensive (but not cheap, if you know what I mean), reliable, medium grips, something probably in the 9mm, .357, .380, .38 range, and above all…
