Senator Joe Manchin may be a conniving anti-gun suck. But he has just become the biggest Democrat truth-teller on Obamacare. “Meltdown … falls of its own weight … becomes more than we can absorb.” Devastating stuff! Ever hear of Ocorrafoo Cobange, a scientist at the Wassee Institute of Medicine in Asmara? Neither has anybody else. But 157 professional journals were happy to accept the extremely fake-sounding scientist’s extremely fake article. “What This Poet Says About Our Culture Is So Brilliant It Could Break Something in Your Brain.” Well, maybe not that brilliant. But definitely very astute. And very funny, besides.…
Category: Money
Posts about being frugal, getting out of debt, staying out of debt, spending practically and splurging joyfully. This category may also contain posts about hard money and what the government is doing to all that “soft money” it creates.
Commonsense about polygamy is finally appearing in the mainstream. (No, I don’t think government should be involved, but otherwise, this is good stuff.) If you want to live innovatively off-grid, maybe it’s best not to do it in a city. Or at least not to talk about it if you do. (H/T H.) That Texas “affluenza” brat who killed four people and turned one of his friends into a vegetable may not have to pay any consequences for his actions. But his parents might. The courts might never stop the NSA’s outrages (despite hopeful rulings to the contrary). Congress? They…
Thank you for making last month and this one very big on my Amazon links. It’s a huge help. And myohmy, you just keep on doing it. 🙂 While last month wasn’t as big as November 2012, this month is considerably bigger than last December. A lot of people out there are going to get some really nice Christmas presents. I’ve been expecting things to slow down, but just when I think you’re done shopping … you’re not. —– Though I’m not asking for a thing this year other than for you to use those links, I feel mightily blessed.…
Oz Media has met and exceeded its Kickstarter campaign goal. They’re 110% funded for a half-hour production. The Puppycide documentary will be made. (Assuming the Oz folks are as good as their word and a meteor doesn’t smack the earth. Or whatever.) AND there’s lots of cool swag for project backers. Just 10 hours to go on the campaign in case you’re interested.
“Acing the background check.” Bazillions for “security,” entourages, cavalcades, vast theaters of protective deception … and they stick Obama 18 inches away from a crazy accused murderer. (If you’re thinking what I think some of you may be thinking, please don’t say it out loud. It wouldn’t have helped a bit.) Tax people for working. Subsidize them for not working. And anybody less “brilliant” than Obama (or any typical congressthing) understands that you turn working poor into non-working poor. Forgive me for not remembering who deserves the hat tip for this, but it’s one of those stories a dog lover…
Something amazing happened this morning. If you read Joel’s blog you already know about it. The people who did it don’t want their names published. I know who they are, though. They’re long-time readers and supporters of this blog. Long-time encouragers of me. And now big-time heroes to Joel. And what they did for Joel is simply typical of what they do. I know of many more acts of kindness on their part, some in the freedomista world, some not. They are people who give of themselves, as well as giving of their hard-earned resources. And hard-earned is the word.…
“You shall not pass!” Video of dogs that are terrified of walking past cats. In some cases, rightly so. (Via MLS.) And remember the “Puppycide” Kickstarter relaunch? This time (yay!) they’ve made their more modest goal of $40,000 (which will fund a half-hour documentary, not the feature film they originally proposed). Now, with six more days remaining, they’ve named a “stretch goal.” Sixty thousand dollars will enable Oz Media to make a 45-minute film. Which is just right for a one-hour TV slot. If they get that much, they’ll be marketing the work to networks and TV stations.
Okay, here we go. This will be the penultimate Amazon Christmas shopping list. It’s about pets and other animals. And this one’s not strictly Amazon. If you or anybody on your gift list is looking for information on raising chickens, goats, rabbits, or any farm animals the place to go is the Backwoods Home Book Store. You’ll find livestock books under multiple categories, including Animals & Pets, Food Production, and Self-Sufficiency. I have NFI in BHM Book Store sales (except for two books I wrote). But without BHM, this blog wouldn’t exist. They’re good people. —– Now on to Amazon…
Been deadlining this week and it doesn’t stop. Thinking of you all, though. Big Second-Amendment guy, Alan Korwin, is making news with a big First-Amendment case. You can always count on the FBI … to be just 61% accurate in its mass-homicide stats. Heck, they could save taxpayers’ money by using random chance. Oh. Maybe they did. “By threatening their lives as well as their budgets, Obama has created a huge class of losers, who statistically overrun the small class of winners and outweigh them in savvy…” Millennials. Fed up with Obama, Obamacare and government. Nice trend. But some of…
“Eh … they’re just people.” Drug warriors and cancer patients. (H/T Anon.) Not a big threat at this point, but a new virus targets “the Internet of things.” Which also means it’s targeting Linux. (H/T H) Quick! Somebody appoint Jim Rogers to head the Fed! (H/T JB) Wealth and inequality. No matter what your politics (or lack thereof), these charts are alarming. This is not what a healthy country looks like. The comparisons of perception-ideal-reality are fascinating, though. Protecting us against depressed paraplegic Canadians. And doing it in the creepiest possible way. “The congregation was besides themselves.” Ungrammatical but quite…
