- Via Wendy McElroy, the gummint’s view of all us “stay out of debt and be responsible” types. 😉
- So this is the kind of person being hired to “protect and serve” these days. Whoo, scary.
- Maybe he should become a terrorist, instead. He seems to have all the qualifications.
- There are “experts” predicting hyperinflation. There are “experts” who sneer at that, pointing out that we’re obviously in greater danger from deflation. Here’s the best explanation I’ve seen of why the latter can easily lead to the former.
- “Toxic Citizens.” Even the WSJ is now noticing. And it says what’s bad for U.S. citizens living abroad may eventually be bad for the USA.
- Okay, but on the lighter side … You’ve been to that site. I know you have. Or at least you’ve seen its animal photos with their cute little “I can has cheezburger” captions. But. Here’s the difference between just playing around online and turning a good idea into a mini-empire. Long live creative capitalism!
- I mentioned last week that I’m doing a 30-day experiment in primal nutrition (a subject on which blog commentors have been of huge help, thank you). So far, okay. But Sunday night I got to wondering: “Geez, if this really turns out to be the way to eat — no grains, no sweeteners, just meat, veggies, nuts, and fruit, basically — what’s up with all that long-term storage food sitting out there in the barn?” I mean … wheat berries, TVP granules, sugar, germade, pinto beans, powdered milk, even those notorious lentils I like to joke about … sure that could keep a body alive in rough times. But what would primal emergency food preps look like? The very next morning, purely by chance, I stumbled upon Mark Sisson’s only slightly tongue-in-cheek answer. Nope, I’m not eating Fido, even post-apocalypse. But there are other possibilities …
- Finally, here’s something to think seriously about. Kent McManigal asks, “What would YOU do if you woke up in liberty?” Might spend a few minutes each morning over your coffee or tea contemplating that one.

I would import a nissan R32 GTR skyline, which would suddenly cost the same as a toyota hilux truck with more rust than steel in it does currently. For you americans it would no longer be banned from the streets by the NHTSA or the BBQSA or whatever it is called.
I would buy the surplus G3s that would be sold to the public rather than demolished as they are now.
And yes, I’d build a green house and cultivate funny tobacco/rock’n’roll tobacco/whatever your pet name for it is. :p
Regarding I can Has Cheezburger:many of the satellite webpages are funnier than the cats now…though most of it is pretty dumb…there’s some squirt-coffee-out-your-nose funny stuff on there. Good way to kill a rainy afternoon. Comixed, Graph Jam, So Much Pun and Failbook are my favorites.
The political pundit I usually avoid though…wading through visual interpretations of current events that must be coming from people with room temprature IQs, well it can make you lose your faith in humanity, that’s all…
There’s no problem with primal living versus preps. Preps are for emergencies. There are very few of us who can or do store and maintain enough food to last a full year. Throw in a few friends or relatives who come to the door when times get really tough, and most of our supplies are unlikely to last even 3 months.
So one eats primal whenever possible, but when calories get truly scarce and survival is the goal, eat a few beans or even some lentils to augment your eggs and meat.
I have no power over I Can Has Cheezburger. I admit it. I am a hopeless addict and visit every day.
There’s about a dozen of the Cheezburger family of sites that I visit every night, I find a good laugh helps me sleep. HackedIRL, Oddly Specific, and Very Demotivational are some of them. (On that last site, this is my favorite post: http://verydemotivational.com/?s=ymca )
Let’s see, if I woke up in Liberty, I’d start work on my house and barn without worrying that I don’t have the money for things like permits and inspections, using the alternative building materials which last for centuries but are not currently approved. And then after those were built and my livestock settled, I’d . . . . you know, I think that’s it. Boy my dreams are tame, aren’t they?
PS: Claire, if you ever decide to eat legumes again, you can start in on those lentils just by tossing a small handful into your beef stew. That’s my favorite way to eat them. Barring that, I’m sure there are people here willing to swap.
Our government is owned/controlled by the financial corporations, starting with the Federal Reserve. The only GDP we’ve had the last decade or so is generating debt to be bundled and sold and borrowed agianst etc. So, of course when we stop going into debt, we stop generating money for the government corporations and we are un-american, selfish and maybe even a little dangerous. ;o)
The police officer in question in the second article is a direct result of an establishment that belives “Protect and Serve” doesn’t apply to the citizens, just to the elite and political entity that signs the pay checks. He is a problem generated by an attitude that whatever a police officer does is above reproach and not to be questioned. I’d like to think this would be a wake up call to that department, but after he is prosecuted (or not) things will go back to being about the same. Gratf, crime, corruption.
Claire, good luck on your primal diet. I beleive if you stick with it you will be succesful. Ultimately you will likely be consuming less calories and healthier, fresh foods, never a bad plan.
I do find it interesting that the purveyors of these kind of diets seem to ignore the fact that our human bodies are set up to process (molars) and digest (stomach, two kinds of intestine, etc) legumes and grains. Also, seemingly ignored is that man began eating and then domesticating and harvesting legumes and grains just after the dawn of time. We know our native american predecessors at lots of wild grains and legumes, as did most of our european, eastern, african etc ancestors. Legumes and grains provide a lot of essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids etc that our bodies need. I do concur with a lot of people though, that amounts of all these ingredeints need to be balanced, and the less they’ve been processed, poisoned and packaged the better.
What would I do if I woke up in Liberty? I’d wonder how in heck did I wind up in Liberty, wrong turn at Albquerque?
Then, I load the weapons, and prepare for a fight, for surely someone will be coming along to take it away again.
