When I heard about the big “ghost town” a few days ago, my immediate reaction was, “Isn’t Detroit still available?”

Or, if they want to test next-gen wireless broadband, they could use the huge swaths of the country — with actual residents, no less — that still don’t have broadband access. At least that way the stolen tax-money might result in a service to real live people.

But how much can you expect from idiots who think Fort Bliss is in New Mexico* and overlooked a fairly large air force base that really is?

    * OK, some spills over the border, but just _try_ addressing mail to “For Bliss, NM” and see what happens.

It never ceases to amaze me…as well as it pisses me off! Just why do we need all this rechnology crap anyway? Seems odd, but ever wonder just why it is as technology advances common sense decreases? Re air travel….I don’t. No way am I going to support a bunch of lame assed goons groping people. Ever consider that all this “safety” crap is reallly a control gimmick? I got news for them….I protect myself and I don’t need some gov’t idiot creating some agency to do it for me. As for the new “stimulus”….yeah right…..that idiot couldn’t stimulate a latex lovedoll.

I read (past tense) Fer’s Surviving Argentina blog for years. But he’s young and suddenly became a little too successful for his own good. He’s living off of that blog, and good for him. However, he’s making a living off of one example of a failing country taken over by the IMF for all practical purposes. There will be no such takeover in the US or EU. Although he makes many ligitimate points, his end game just isn’t going to apply to the EU or US. We’re significantly bigger and we worked hard to help stabalize Argentina during their crisis. No one is going to do us the same favor.

Prior to 9-11 stability was considered an important concept which Argentina benefitted from. Since 9-11 the Bush led Neocons (or was it the Neocon led Bush?) have pushed for instability as a way of destroying the old orders and making over every country in the world a Western socialist democracy. Obamaites and the Euros have been pushing for the same thing (although, decomracy seems of little importance in their formulations though the socialist bit remains in full force).

I certainly don’t think we’re going to experience the Zombie Apocalypse, but I doubt if the the US or EU governments will be in near as much control as the Kirschners did in Argentina. The West has infected the world with chaos and we’re all going to pay for that.

Yeah-Detroit would make a great test bed for autonomous cars-if it could get through there, it could get through anywhere. Addiction, if you ask me, is a bad habit, not a disease. It may cause diseases(like cirrhosis of the liver, or some such),but it’s just a bad habit.
Too bad that picture of Saturn wasn’t taken by a human holding a camera..

I think there has been a wrong focus on technology.

All the recent technology has been to give us gadgety type tech. Like making cars into rolling living rooms on wheels and entertainment tech like 3-D movies and tv sets, as well as iPads(which I still want one). And as an example, not enough on making the lives of the disabled better, such as radio communications good enough to allow the Deaf the ability to fly in IFR conditions without the need of a hearing co-pilot.

I’d like to see technology developed to the point of getting us off this mudball. I’m willing to become a rockjack if necessary.

Jim B.- I’d like to see genetic engineering get to the point where no one need be deaf,or blind, or disabled in any way-maybe even make improvements(longer life, regeneration, stepped up immmune system, expanded senses). We need to get off this rock-I’d like to go to Mars…

I have one of those Meth-Lab dogs. She’s a hoot! Big, beautiful, sweet, loyal and dumber than a post.
