New from Jake and Friday links

My brain, OTOH, still feels as if it’s going to explode from the pressures of deadlining. But I’m sneaking out of the office this afternoon for Costco therapy with girlfriend L. The nearest Costco is more than an hour away. Fortunately it’s also at the end of a very scenic drive that features not only some lovely portions of the great NorthWET, but several latte stands. And being a Friday, there might even be — garage sales! See ya later.

The church used to be a santuary. Wonder if the cleric at St. Paul’s Cathefral invited a number of Occupiers into the church proper, the coppers would come in after them to evict?

    Woot-woot for garage sales!!

Thanks for all the links, and all your posts. I’m really digging your blog and reading all the older articles that BWH keeps archived.

My kids (14 and 17) love your books, too, btw. We home-educate so they’ve got time enough to enjoy… Basically, Claire, you *rock.*

If you’re going into a town, see if they have a Goodwill,or other thrift store-those are always fun,and you may find Something Cool. Or at least useful, maybe both. I was going to say what Pat just did-I thought churches have historically been places of refuge, though the priest may counsel you as to why you took refuge there, and stand up with you if he felt you were in the right.
I doubt all those gun registrations just Went Away-they’re around somewhere. Bureaucrats is bureaucrats, across the planet and time.

I should have known you liked yard sales. Helped my mom put together her first five years ago – after step-father passed away – it was great therapy. Plus she made room for her future yard sale finds. Happy hunting – especially faced with the trip to Costco.

Claire, Totally off recent topic(s). Last Friday I got some Choban Greek yogurt, blueberry. I only got one because the world was going to end that day at 6 pm and I figured one would be enough. It was absolutely marvelous and I’ve been craving it all week. This week it was on sale, so now I have enough to last until the next store run next week. Thanks for the recommendation!

——————————————————————————-At a Wednesday news conference, Police Chief Howard Jordan said the Olsen case would be investigated “as vigorously as a fatal police shooting,”

Well, that’s hardly reassuring, unless he’s talking about a cop being fatally shot (somehow, I don’t think so.)

Contagion? Look at his list. From #1, “…several years of record-breaking Treasury accumulation by these foreign banks will grind to a halt and foreign Treasury holdings will begin to decline.”

Underway. Norway has already sold all the US paper from its sovereign wealth fun. Granted that $11 billion is chump change in today’s world, but it’s a clue. And China’s holdings are slowly being sold off–and they’re adding to their gold purchases as well as other commodities.

Step #5? China’s been griping for quite a while, now.

Step #6? Inevitable, and hiccups in the ten-year have already been occurring.

    Got gold? Junk silver?

Oh, I’m jealous that you still have the prospect of garage sales up there! Ours shut down a couple of weeks ago. I’ll be anxiously awaiting Spring when we can go flea marketing and yard sale-ing!
