You’ve been hearing about the seeming hordes of tourists and businessfolk who in recent weeks made the mistake of imagining that New York City has semi-sane gun laws.
And you wonder, don’t you, how the heck any gun owner could be so oblivious? There’ve been so many newsbits since mid-December about naive out-of-staters deliberately exposing themselves to NYC anti-gun Authoritah that we could be forgiven for imagining that there’s some mysterious species of gun-owning lemming that heads eastward to its doom at this time of year.
One well-known gun-rights writer and one semi-hemi-demi-pseudo-quasi famous one have taken that issue on this week:
In an article appearing today at Paladin Press, I delve into the old question of “Ignorance of the law …” (I am, of course, totally in favor of ignoring most law; but that’s not the same thing.)
And earlier this week, John Lott mused in print about whether those bumbling NYC visitors should have to pay for their folly. (The Lott article has some confusing omissions in it and isn’t up-to-date on developments in one case; it’s still a good one.)
As far as I know, NYC is the first place to have the first anti-gun law in this country. I believe that to be the Sullivan Law. So anyone that go to NYC expecting to carry is an idiot.
My hometown. I remember when things were different there. I could never live there again.
I would never go to NYC without a pistol.
I would also never go to NYC without a pistol that isn’t homemade, “sterile” and completely disposable.
Black powder derringers (preferably smoothbore) and revolvers head the list. One advantage is that they can be sewn into a soft, loose cloth bag. The bag protects and conceals the piece, keeping it “sterile”, yet allowing it to be fired without leaving the bag. The bag can be torn open and the pistol dumped without “contamination.”
Some designs can be disassembled into a confusing array of components that can be dispersed among multiple items of baggage.
I’m not advocating that anyone break the law. Personally, I have no intention of ever visiting NYC, so the point is moot to me. However, I know people who have done this and reported success.
Most importantly, keep your mouth shut while traveling. There’s a lot to be said for being The Grey Man or Woman.
Other than passing through the airport, why would any sane person choose to go to NY? The city is anti-everything except stripping residents and visitors of their cash and rights.
I last “transited” NYC while in the Army en route overseas. That was 1954. If I ever have to go there again I will definitely be armed with “Mr Glock”. To Mr Bloomberg’s chagrin retired LEOs are “licensed” to carry in all US jurisdictions under H.R.218: The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004. Why is Mr Glock similar to an American Express card? Answer: you never leave home without it.
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ!!!
“retired LEOs”. Some animals are more equal.
