Colbert on U.S.-world relations

Such a sign of our times that the only public figures telling the truth are comedians.

It reminds me of my favorite quote from when I was young and read Deep Thinkers. This one’s from Soren Kierkegaard:

“A fire broke out backstage in a theater. The clown came out to warn the public; they thought it was a joke and applauded. He repeated it; the acclaim was even greater. I think that’s how the world will come to an end: to general applause from wits who believe it’s a joke.”

BTW, here’s the latest in NSA paranoia: apparently we now need to be “protected” against all those terroristic old cardinals at the Vatican.

There has always been kernels of truth to comedy. Colbert, Jon Stewart etc are getting it right. I think more people are listening to them than most of the talking heads. You might not agree with what the comedians are saying, but at least they are entertaining.

Ever try to schedule for a large group of shift employees? No matter how hard you work at it, or how accommodating you try to be, half of them will scream at you and hate you. The most common remark I remember when I had that thankless job was, “Is this supposed to be a damned JOKE?”

You get accused of being a joker, even when that was not your intent. sigh

Oh, I am SO glad I’ll never have to do that job again. 🙂

    May be old news but:

“The Department of Homeland Security and National Security Agency threatened to sue a novelty store owner who sells “Department of Homeland Stupidity” coffee cups and T-shirts with the slogan: “The NSA: The only part of government that actually listens.”

When the left eats its own, its a good day. When the right sees this, and does not leverage it, its a normal day, and when they cowtow to the left, im pissed off.

Im going to have some Tea.

Then think about it, and wonder why in the hell a gay male like me thinks the tea party has it mostly correct. yeah, the outcome isnt in my favor, but at the same time, they havent directed an attack at the Constitution that makes it impossible for me to defend and legallly let me be.

If I give up my rights as given or allow them to be reinterpreted, in hope of something fabulous = im stringing my own neck.

The left isnt really in on this, just the lip service. The right ignores it like its a 3rd world issue, and isnt cool. Tea party, does not want it, but the point they make if given even ground means what they profess, Im golden.

Somehow it will fail, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend works for now.
