Friday links

  • Another lemonade stand bites the dust. (Then is “allowed” to reopen, subject to inspection. They’re gonna kill a whole generation of entrepreneurs.)
  • And that’s not all they’re doing to the independence of children.
  • In the pre-apocalypse vacation cabins are the first to go. Kind of a dumb lefty article, but still interesting.
  • How one doctor blew the whistle on horrendous medical fraud and malpractice. This doctor had nothing personally to gain; just integrity. Even after he put himself at risk, it appears the government followed up only minimally, doing little to investigate what must have been an entire empire of torment for patients.
  • One of those strictly token pro-gun bills unlikely to go anywhere. But maybe worth a smile.

Cancer medicine is a ripe field for malpractice. People have been long indoctrinated into almost worshipful trust in doctors, especially in times of major threats. No matter how expensive, a serious diagnosis requires a second opinion, from a doctor completely unconnected to the first. And they need to start from scratch, not even knowing about the other diagnosis, if possible.

But I have to say that this story isn’t really about “greed.” It’s about an addiction to POWER over others. That is the ultimate deadly compulsion.

Jim B. — That’s fascinating! A lot of dog owners know that when your dog doesn’t like somebody, it’s a good idea to be cautious of the person in question. But I never heard or saw anything like this.

BTW, let me say it before somebody else does. On the gun-legislation item: yes, repeal is called for, not amendment. And even the amendment is token in this case. Still, be of good cheer. Both the NRA and NSSF are in favor of H.R. 2710 — which is way better than their usual tendency to sell us all out with noxious compromises.

Claire, your Friday Links are such up-lifting, inspiring, positive examples of what is right with our country……..NOT.
I have started today rereading Unintended Consequences by John Ross for maybe the fourth time. (Great book, by the way. Out of Print but downloadable) Within the first 30 pages or so is a brief account of the “Bonus Army” after WWI, and how they were ultimately treated, and by whom.
When I read that, and compare it to how the Occupiers of Wall Street, and the protesters in Ferguson, MO, and others, have been pampered, and mollycoddled, it sickens me.
How far this country has fallen!

Those girls running the lemonade stand were lucky the police didn’t tase them, and burn down the stand and their parents house for good measure. Next I expect the building inspector will be set loose upon them to make sure the stand is up to current building codes and fine them for not having got a building permit.

I saw a TV program on the Bonus Army (so it had to be true). It noted that one of the members was a man who had saved Patton’s life in WWI. He asked for permission to talk to Patton, who would have nothing to do with him.

Florida CPS qualifies as a disaster. They’ve had kids die in foster homes as well as with bad parents. When parents really are bad, like in and out of jail perpetually and very negligent, it takes many months before a court will take steps to take them away permanently. But, the plus side is a lot of salaries are being paid during this time; everybody has to make a living.

There’s the occasional surgeon who does unnecessary procedures; the RN’s often are afraid to say anything and without any formal complaint, the hospitals like the money.

Not sure if this is the best way of getting the info but I need a little direction. I’m going to buy some crash bars for my bike off of Amazon. They are several hundred dollars and I want to use your Amazon link. How do I make sure it works to your benefit? Thanks.

Jim B. — That Mental Militia link works, but it goes to an old account that doesn’t get as much traffic (or earn as high a percentage) as the link here on the blog. MamaLiberty’s right; the link I’ve stickied at the top of the blog and just posted here in comments is the best one to use.
