- You thought maybe the TSA was the fedgov’s worst example of idiotic “security”? Hey, at least the TSA puts on an impressive pretense. OTOH, it appears that the Office of Personnel Management actually gave root access for all those now-hacked personnel files to contractors in Argentina and … yes, here it comes: China.
- How Orange is the New Black misrepresents women’s federal prisons. Yes, but it’s a good show. And the memoir it’s based on is even better. More lesbian sex in the Netflix version, but the horror of petty people in power comes across even more strongly in the book.
- What searching for Sasquatch can teach us about science.
- Okay, time to have your little heart warmed courtesy of LarryA.
- Yeah, I’m like this about dogs in movies, too. Never yet have been able to watch Old Yeller or Turner and Hooch. (NFI)

I was expecting the dog shirt link to be a shirt that said “Dog lives matter” (or would that be “#DogLivesMatter”?).
•What searching for Sasquatch can teach us about science.
That those who say “Sasquatch definitely exists” and those who say “Sasquatch definitely does not exist” are, so far, both wrong?
Back in the day the typical federal felon was someone like John Dillinger. Today it’s someone like Martha Stewart.
Don’t go see Age of Adeline either. Kingsman is okay.
Old Yeller is one of those coming of age movies that teach you it is ok to hurt, even while doing the right thing. The movie is about courage and responsibility, something sadly lacking in today’s American society. If you have not seen it, Claire, get yourself a case of kleenex, watch the movie, and have a good cry. It’s worth it.
As to our government’s irresponsibility, I have tried throughout my life to subscribe to Hanlon’s Razor:
“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence.”
Lately, though, it’s been hard. Can office after office after office really be THAT incompetent without there being SOMETHING behind it?
Always enjoy your writing. Would love to see a piece on “Jade Helm.”
Thanks

Does it count that I managed to watch The Yearling? (Courage, responsibility, and death but with a deer, not a dog.)
FWIW, I’ve had your same thoughts about the unlikelihood of the fedgov being this incompetent.
As to Jade Helm, I’m not sure I’ll write about it directly, but am noodling something possibly related to it.
Never undestimate institutionalized incompetence. The really funny thing about OPM and the root access, is they didn’t give it away, they paid the contractors to take it!
We can only hope that when they come for us they are similarly incompetent. Glubb (I know, broken record) observed that prominence of women was one of the signs of a decadent society 🙂
Why Bigfoot could be anywhere, just anywhere. http://www.wvgazette.com/Outdoors/201204050189 I’ve seen one episode of their search; it’s a verifiable hoot.
A favorite observation of creatures book of mine, by a legitimate Nobel Prize winner will always be http://www.amazon.com/Man-Meets-Dog-Routledge-Classics/dp/0415267455/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1434743167&sr=1-1&keywords=man+meets+dog
I have few absolute life goals; one of them is never to watch Old Yeller. I’ve learned quite enough losing a real dog. Kipling understood the experience perfectly http://www.poetryloverspage.com/poets/kipling/power_of_dog.html
OPM is a good example of an enigma – at least to me. I could never decide of fedgov attracts incompetents, or if there is something about the work environment that takes normal people and fills them with self-righteousness and incompetence in equal measures.
