Put the foundation back under this blog

It’s time to put the foundation back under the blog.

I’d hoped to avoid a fundraiser until the end of the year or early next, but the last couple of months have made me regret for the first time not keeping that post office job my mother thought was so wonderful when I was 19. (“It pays well for a woman,” Mom said. “Secure, too,” she said. “You can retire when you’re 50.”)

So here, simply, is the deal:

$3,000 keeps the blog going for another year* and not incidentally lets me tackle the earth-moving and wall-building part of the foundation work on my house.

$5,500 keeps the blog going for two years** and not incidentally lets me begin the foundation work, proper.

Every $300 raised below that keeps the blog going for one month.

A couple of years ago, you guys came through like champs for my “roof raiser.” This time I’m asking you not to think so much about the needs of Ye Olde Wreck (because, really, why should they even be your concern?), but about this blog — which until May 1 had a financial “foundation” provided by BHM, but now has only Amazon links to support it. Think about whatever you get from this blog — information, community, encouragement, laughs, healthy rage, whatever it might be — and “v*te” with your dollars for it to continue.

Late next month, I’ll be back to more regular blogging. If you “v*te” with your dollars to keep the blog going beyond a year, the blog will also move to a dedicated site with interesting new features to be added (still in the thinking stages so far, but they’ll take advantage of the wonderful community spirit that’s grown around this blog).

How you can donate

Either use the PayPal button below to give any amount you choose, or send a check or money order via snail mail. (If you have the PO Box 12– addy, that one’s still good. If you need the snailing addy, contact me at donate-at-hermit-dot-cotse-dot-net.)

* Provided my Tesla’s autopilot doesn’t fail to notice large trucks and kill me.

** Provided my Learjet doesn’t lose cabin pressure and kill me.

I’m starting this off by crediting the generous “ghost” who already sent me an unsolicited donation last month:

This graphic will be manually updated at least once a day to reflect new totals. Thank you!

    A new blog site? Kool!

    /me mutters under my breath

Paypal is becoming PaynPal. Okay, part of me appreciates better security, but “We don’t recognize the device you’re using”? Hey, it’s a web browser. Sigh. Do they think I might be using a teletype and spoofing the request headers?

(Nevermind me, just mildly grumpy this AM anyway.)

    Boss Lady
Why don’t you look at a Patreon account ?
I don’t know specifically the good and bad of the program, but it does get you away from PayPal

I’m afraid I don’t have dollars to vote with right now, my hours keep getting cut more and more. But I can support you in spirit!

Ellendra — You’ve always been an important supporter of this blog, by being a wise and informative member of the Commentariat and by using my Amazon links. Thank you.

Michael Jordan — I promise to look into it. I’ve been meaning to.

ML — Yes, potentially a new site. I know a lot of people have had tech difficulties with BHM. And a dedicated site would also allow a bit more freedom — maybe to do things like bring in co-bloggers (as in the old Wolfesblog) — among other things. We’ll have to see how much support there is before developing a new site, but I already have the host and have been working with some attractive templates. Many possibilities, if people are interested enough.

For the record, a new site is a fantastic idea, and I hope people kick in to make it happen. I ain’t exactly swimming in cash, but I’m doing my bit.

You are very welcome. It is the least I can do. I appreciate all you do!

Awhile back I think you mentioned that you had found some old JPFO stuff; if
you aren’t attached to it, you could raffle it off to raise some funds. I know I would bid on something.

I was sorry to read you lost your dog Robbie. I never gets easier no matter how many have come and gone. Reassure yourself that his life was enriched being by your side.

I wish you all the best.

    Hi Claire,

I’ve been reading your books and articles since the early days of Loompanics and have always considered your writing to be refreshing and informative.

I don’t recall ever seeing you mention bitcoin before, but if you give me a bitcoin address, I will send you half a bitcoin. The current market price is about $650 per bitcoin. Among other reasons, I like them because they provide a partial alternative to the traditional banking system. If nothing else, you can always use them to buy gift cards from egifter to places like Amazon.

There are lots of bitcoin wallet alternatives, but one fairly easy wallet to set up is at: Once you have a wallet, you can copy an address into this thread or you can email it to me.

If you’re interested, the following is a somewhat dated but still very good introduction.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Will there be a…a discussion forum? Like back in the old days?

Greg, if Claire won’t help you out, let me know- I’ll give you my bitcoin address!
