- There’s another “tech bubble.” It’s the one Silicon Valley hotshots are living in.
- One surefire prediction for 2018: Americans will take on even more debt. Or crash and burn from the record-setting debt they’ve already incurred.
- It surprises me to learn that Daniel Ellsberg is still going strong … and that he liberated secrets far beyond the Pentagon Papers. (H/T PT)
- To unlock the brain’s mysteries, puree it and study the resulting “brain soup.” Um, not my brain, if you please. (H/t PT)
- Your city’s forbidden you to feed the homeless? Arm yourself and do good deeds despite the gov. (It worked for one group, at least. YMMV.)
- The world would be a better place if more tattoos looked like this. (Or if tats were still confined to drunken sailors and convicts.)
- Meanwhile, everyday decency like this keeps things cranking along.
- Trump’s approval rating finally exceeds his IQ. (Yes, satire.)
- How introverts make friends. So true. I think they got their percentages switched, though.

Never did see any logical reason for tattoos, but whatever they want. I do wonder if any of them have given any thought to how those things will look when they get old and wrinkled. I’ve seen some doozies. 🙂 But then, young people don’t believe they’ll ever get old and wrinkled, so they won’t think of it unless they spend some time working in a nursing home. And maybe not even then.
There are several things wrong with the tech industry.
One is, they never unserstood business. They had a good idea and played around with it because it was fun. But “fun” is not how to grow a business.
Two is, they never understood what capitalism is. Like Bill Gates, they think it’s just about making money and being the leader – at all costs, and no matter how it gets done.
Three is, they don’t know what’s important or why, they can’t look ahead and plan for the future. They jump on new ideas and products, build them, sit back and wait for accolades, not relating them to necessity or where the idea will lead. (Anti-privacy products are a case in point.)
Four is, they’re not as “cool” as they think. Fear of government, political correctness, and desire for the new and trendy have made them just so many tech sheep, trying to stay ahead of the competition without knowing where they’re headed or maintaining control of their own destiny.
In short, they’re still playing at business without taking care of business. Like toys today, half of the tech innovations are unnecessary. The “smart” stuff is off-target (except for 3D printing), the bells and whistles are a cover-up for “nothing new under the sun.” The nerds are running out of truly new and useful ideas. (It’s not that the ideas aren’t out there – it’s rather that the tech minds currently around are not capable of thinking up the useful ideas. They’re too busy playing follow-the-leader.)
This wasn’t meant to be a rant, but I guess it turned into one. Sorry.
Have to agree with ML: I’ve never understood decorative tattoos. No matter how nice it is, once you get sick of looking at it you’re screwed. I’d prefer a nice t-shirt, I guess.
On introverts: Yeah, percentages probably reversed. Not that I’d know.
“Perhaps Americans should add “paying off debt” to their New Year’s resolution lists.”
The American people are just following the lead of their government which not only will lead to failure in their own lives but also the very failure of this republic.
In my day, tattoos were a rite-of-passage for us military guys. Women with tattoos were either circus freaks, or had loose morals, or both. Now nearly everyone under the age of 50 has them. How things change.
Drunken sailors and convicts. Wow! And they look awesome on us old freaks. Some peoples kids.
I’ve seen tattoos I liked, but never one I wanted. Too hard to erase when you get tired of it.
I’m with you, Mama.
OTOH I never saw a logical reason for high-heel shoes or pierced ears, either.
The Little Black Dress, now, is a gift from the gods.
Armed to feed the homeless? It was nice to see the citizens stand up to the ‘revanewers’
Absolutely loved hearing the ‘hero’s’ were afraid to get out of their cars.Funny how they are typical cowards, only badazzed MF’ers when they out-gun and out-man you.Take you on on even terms, not a chance.
Another fine example of tyranny and WHY we have a 2nd amendment. And a hat cheer that WE THE PEOPLE can and DO run the gov,not we the subjects of the elites.
Never wore high heels myself, Larry. Always thought they were idiotic. I wore earrings for a while, but the holes closed many years ago and I gave away the earrings. The “little black dress” never fit me. 🙂 I was shaped more or less like a snowman for most of my life. LOL

Hillary’s approval rating is same as Trump in recent poll: http://www.newsweek.com/trump-clinton-ratings-poll-unpopular-753468 – I expect the only way Trump will win re-election is if Hillary steals the DNC nom again.
Mistrial declared in Bundy case: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/20/us/cliven-bundy-mistrail.html – I was surprised the NYT didn’t gloss over many of the details.
lol – I guess the NYT DID gloss over many of the details: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2017/12/the-government-has-screwed-up-the-bundy-case-even-worse-than-we-realized/
