This is the view this morning from my bedroom door into the screen porch and beyond.
It’s not unusual to get snow here. It’s also not unusual to get none. It’s been nearly two years since our last, so this was sweet.
It’s supposed to snow all morning, then resume in the afternoon after an brief period of rain. (A snow day! The little boys next door are gonna have a blast.)
I love this room. I love this spot on this planet. I love ferns bowed down with snow and snow clinging to screens and stone walls. I love this house. It’s so very worth all the surprises, adventures, and creative cussing of its endless reconstruction.
Pretty!
I occasionally miss snow. Since moving to Florida, I’ve seen flurries for about five minutes. But if I had a chance to get back into it, five minutes would probably be just about enough π
What great pictures of an inviting looking spot. And an earned reward, I’d say.
It looks as if Joel’s got our weather, too:

We’re actually having record cold here and will be having it all week. But somehow, this is as pleasant a record cold as you could wish.
To my great, even downright ecstatic, pleasure I’m not shivering inside the house. Between the fat new attic insulation, the new baseboard heater in the bedroom, and the fact that the Monk and I sealed up 1,000 air-sucking gaps in the bedroom floor and baseboards, the indoor temps are in the mid-60s.
A year ago in this sort of weather, I’d have been lucky to have temps hanging in the 50s. A few years before that, I’d have been shivering between a pair of space heaters (the house then having no heat but a rusted-out woodstove that wouldn’t hold a fire), praying for spring.
Although I never suffered the kind of cold Joel had to endure for years, I share his joy at finally being truly warm even as nature does its worst.

Generally, I’d agree. Especially if I’d moved to Florida. Snow would be a downright betrayal!
I was just telling Neighbor J (who’s been longing for snow) that I didn’t care if I ever saw the white stuff again in my life. But this is the pleasantest little snow. And it’s on the other side of a well-sealed glass door. I really like that part. π
As firstdouglas says, the view is a fantastic reward for the years of rot repair, house jacking, and sheer ugliness.
That is beautiful! A gorgeous view, and well-earned.
That is nice. π It’s -11 here right now, and the snow is several feet deep in the drifts… snowed all day yesterday, but the sun is out this morning and it is indeed beautiful. Long as I don’t have to go out in it at any rate. π
How beautiful, Claire, a winter wonderland! Usually, this is what we get in WNY, all the time in the winter, but we’re in a warm up period now, yesterday, today and tomorrow and we might break a temperature record today! It’s 62 out now, very unusual for February in Rachacha! I’m headed to Highland Park for a walk during my lunch hour!
Rochester: Today’s predicted high temp would be 80 degrees warmer than same day in 2015
I kind of wish we had snow right now. Instead it’s pouring rain, on top of frozen ground, with temperatures dropping fast. By evening, the roads are expected to be skating rinks. My chicken’s run is already underwater! They’re hiding in their hutch like smart birds.
In the coastal PNW, winter is very much a function of elevation, and my place is high enough that we get any wintery weather in the area. I’m sitting in my living room with the heat (gas is really nice!) set at 68 and a lap robe over my legs, watching it snow pretty heavily. The ground temps are still high enough from the previous 3 weeks of balmy weather that the roads haven’t been seriously impacted, but I don’t really care. The fridge and the pantry are full enough, the ‘net is up,and I have a backlog of books I’m reading.
