Minioning today

The Wandering Monk returned yesterday. He (very little me this time, except for doing usual clienty things, both useful and annoying) made enormous progress.

The progress was even more remarkable because it involved installing yet another new foundation beam.

The monk was tearing off old skirting and general surface rot when I went off to run some errands and meet a friend. When I returned an hour or so later, he’d already jacked up the house, slipped a beam and supports in place, lowered the house again, and started plotting out a deck.

Amazing. He happily learned a lot from last year’s dreadful foundation project.

Of course, this time there was an actual intact floor structure. Very, very little rot for a change. That helped. Also … erm, the drunks who built Ye Olde Wreck sort of forgot to put a beam in there originally. Which was bad. But also good because The Monk didn’t have to saw, pry, and chip an existing giant slab of lumber out.

The gods of construction were with us yesterday.

Today it’s supposed to rain. But in hopes of having a finished deck before the weekend, I bribed The Monk into returning and I’ll be out there minioning with him all day or as long as we manage to last before getting washed away.

I won’t have pix until we’ve made additional progress. In the meantime, have some more singing Canadians. This time it’s The Arrogant Worms performing “History is Made by Stupid People.”

Ha :-), that’s a funny tune! Glad for the positive progress the Wandering Monk made on your place, Claire! I do hope the deck is finished before the weekend!

I’m proud to say that I own an Arrogant Worms album. (Though clearly I need to buy a few more, as I hadn’t previously heard that song.) Every month or two I find myself singing their “Rocks and Trees”…a song containing a lot of truth. 🙂
