That’s a surprisingly well-written piece on Stephen Willeford. I felt like I’d gotten a good sense of who he is. I think we all know a lot of guys like that. I share range time with more than a few, that I could easily see doing similar things in a similar situation. Me? Well, I hope I’d have enough presence of mind, enough ability to keep on thinking, to do that well. I hope; I don’t know. Never been there.

Several years ago we needed to do an emergency flight to South Pole Station with US Marshals. There was a bit of a rebellion there some Lord of the Flies shit. It is very hush hush. It is the sort of thing one expects when giant corporations have the employment contracts and recruit in the states with the lowest min wage laws. Not exactly the cream of the crop and combine that with over a year in isolation, cold and darkness. Anyways I am suprised by the Russian incident. Most of those guys are lifers, and part of a hard core Antarctic brotherhood.
