Some new ones and a few more I collected over the last 10 days from my sickbed. I don’t recall the sources of some, so please forgive me for any failures of hat tipping.
- Add the Border Patrol to the list of federal agencies whose unconstitutional powers of snoopitude far exceed what you might imagine.
- The great Walter Williams asks who has benefited from black v*ters’ extreme loyalty to the D party?
- Is sunscreen the new margarine? Yet another “health” aid that may actually be bad for us.
- 32 prep things you can do while bored.
- Now that’s one cynical (and unfortunately apt) takedown of the power of privatization.
- The surprising (though not really) popularity of kosher food … in prison.
- LOL. Brad at Wendy’s place does it again. What a spot-on observation of the media (with a little help from the Rolling Stones: “I Can’t Get No Information.”
- How one city government totally screwed up its gun “buyback” program by failing to see the 100% totally obvious.
- Having a bad day at work? You’re still better off than the guy who proclaimed this stone circle to be deeply, authentically prehistoric.
- Your “people are good” story for the day: A complete stranger makes a 2,300-mile cross-country trip to deliver the family dog to a little boy who’s just had cancer surgery.
- Bigger dogs are smarter dogs.
My Chihuahua was smarter – and a lot braver – than a whole kennel of other dogs put together. He spied a snake on the porch once as I was headed out the door. He almost knocked me off my feet as he raced to grab its neck, and bite it in half. Stupid? Not at all. He was intelligent enough to know that love sometimes mean giving up your life for another, and he’d gladly sacrifice his own to protect ‘daddy’s’. There will never be another one like him. I also have 2 “big” dogs. They are not nearly as smart, and not as brave. Give me a small dog, anytime.
I glanced at the article. It confirms my long-time observations that people who profess that they know stuff, often don’t.
Apologies for the rant. I had to put my little boy to sleep yesterday. A piece of my heart died with him, and I’m not myself at the moment; and, I probably won’t be for awhile.
I’m so sorry, ExpatNJ. I know how much that hurts.
And no matter the truth about canine intelligence, nobody ever denied Chihuahuas were some of the bravest, boldest, most loyal little cusses on the planet.
Are Chihuahuas brave,
or just nuts?
Oh, my, that’s a bad day at work. I imagine if he found a GI Joe he’d claim he found evidence of a new species . . .
That was a really interesting article, about sunscreen and vitamin D. I’m one of those who bought the official line, using sunscreen (intermittently, anyway) and taking 5000 units of D3 daily. I think I’ll stop both. Except that I might still use sunscreen when it’s a severe sunburn situation — that ain’t fun.
One other bad thing I learned about sunscreen, a few years ago when riding a century (100-mile single-day bicycle tour) in Kentucky. I was feeling all virtuous because I had applied sunscreen liberally on my forehead. Bad idea. Once you start sweating freely, the sweat washes that stuff down into your eyes. And that really stings! Used up most of my water bottle, trying to get it rinsed out/off.
What is it with democrats and plantations?
Once they had them in the south now they have them in the big cities. Does it have something to do with them needing slaves to take care of their needs?

To hear my Spouse tell it, anyone who WANTS to live with me, MUST be a little of both … 😉
[apology to our Host and guests if I overly-belabored the thread]
🙂
As long as we’re talkin’ about smart dogs….
