I don’t care — and I suspect you don’t either — whose fault the government shutdown is. But boy. Amid all the theatrics and finger pointing, one thing is so, so very clear. The Master of the Shutdown, the head of the executive branch, the guy in charge of how it’s all being done (to us), Mr. Barry O himself, is one surprisingly small-minded, vindictive, nasty little S.O.B.
Among his orchestrations:
25 ridiculous things Obama shut down
One disgusted park ranger told the Washington Times that he and his fellows were being ordered to make things as hard on people as possible.
No doubt Obama hopes the Republicans will be blamed for these many expensive stupidities and petty outrages. Hey, lesser pettiness during the last shutdown worked for Bill Clinton. But bless the b*****d, it’s his name that’s going to be deservedly immortalized in the word “barrycade.” (I don’t know who coined that term; but if you find out, buy the genius a beer.)

I think a lot of people will understand this exactly. I just wonder how many will get something much bigger: If a spiteful president can shut down the Amber Alert system, cut off sports broadcasts to military bases, and shut people out of their homes on federal land today, how are things going to be next time when the same man — or some even more decadent emperor — has the power and the people-hating pettiness to cut off emergency medical care or barrycade major transportation routes?

Sounds like second graders at recess fighting over Hot Wheels or some such..
So many folks who work around the national parks rely on tourism this time of year, it’s sad. I can’t help thinking about the poor folks in the Estes Park area who were hit so hard by the floods recently, and now this.
Foothills Parkway in Great Smoky NP is closed, stranding kids on their way home from school. The alternative roads are dangerous, twisty roads. (I concur. We’ve been on them.) The school will not run the buses on those roads, so now the parents have to figure out how to get the kids to and from school. Meanwhile, O plays golf and laughs.
Meanwhile, the Andrews Air Force base golf course is open, and the White house still has its 2 chefs.
Seeing photos of the senior vets get arrested at the WWII memorial made me sick.
We’re supposed to take a couple of days off soon and drive a few miles along the Blue Ridge Parkway to see the foliage. We might have to cancel those plans. The entire parkway is open, but trails and facilities are closed, thanks to Sauron and the Orcs.
Somebody out there said the message is supposed to be “Look how important we are to your life,” but the message that’s being delivered is “Look how much we can mess up your life if you piss us off.” Crass, petty, vindictive and creepy. Also petulant as a bratty child.
“The entire parkway is open, but trails and facilities are closed…”
Good reason to take potty breaks on the side of the road (or on the doorsteps of any “official” buildings you can find). I can be just as nasty as “they” can.
I keep looking at those pictures of the barrycades around the WWII memorial, and thinking how great those would be for keeping the neighbor’s horses out of my garden……
At least one of the arrest stories floating around turned out to be a hoax. There’s a pic of Vietnam vets being loaded into a police van. According to what I read, that pic was actually taken at a different protest some time ago, before the shutdown started and in NYC, not DC.
I’m never really sure about all the stories out there; even if I’ve read all of them, sometimes it’s hard to verify each one. However, there’s a family in Nevada that’s kicked out of their home (which they own but is on gov property) because of the shutdown, caught part of their interview on the news. They’re seniors, and not healthy. So yeah, Obama needs to move out of the White House – which should be shut down just like these peoples’ home has been.

(Yes, I know, maybe not owning the entire property was their first mistake.)
Hmmm, Obama’s other name is Soetero, is it not? So
Soetero

Works for me!
I really hope people realize we’d be much better off if the National Parks were privatized.
I don’t concure that National Parks should be privatized, I have seen what developers will do to scenic lands. I do believe they should be the responsibility of the state/states that those parks, forests and monuments are actually in.
Matt, what makes the control freaks and thieves in the state “government” any improvement over the feds? They are all the same breed of blood suckers and have proven a million times that they are extremely poor stewards of anything, including beautiful countryside and forests. Look at the situation in Calif. just for starters.
You, and anyone else who wants to preserve “scenic lands,” should be perfectly free to buy them and maintain them just as you wish.
It’s been said, and I’m starting to believe it, that Barry O. is baiting the political right to act. He’s HOPING AND PRAYING for a violent response. So far, nobody’s taken it, and if nobody does, the pettiness, petulence, and rhetoric will only be increased another ten-fold.
The real question is, then, what will the NEXT baiting tactic look like?
Privatizing the national parks apparently wouldn’t have helped, anyway. The government is busily closing down private properties (Mount Vernon is privately owned, but the government is blocking its parking lots) and leased properties over which is has no legal authority. When one rents property he has the right to the use of it as long as he is not in default of the lease terms, but that hasn’t stopped the government from shutting down a private bed and breakfast on leased land. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/10/03/us-usa-fiscal-inn-idUSBRE9920W220131003 That is just illegal. I hope that a whole raft of lawsuits results from this Administration’s high-handedness.
I think it’s time for some home-grown “creative destruction”. People should sneak onto government parks, etc., and run over cones and destroy barricades wherever they can (preferably without getting caught). I also like Kent McManigal’s idea about potty breaks. There needs to be widespread pushback against these idiocies.
With the various LEO being focused on keeping honest people out, it would seem to be a good opportunity for poachers, artifact hunters etc to plunder these government lands.

I agree, these silly things are intended to provoke, and even push unstable folks right over the edge. Such a reaction then justifies whatever his naked imperial lowness comes up with as “emergency measures”.
And people are disgusted and angry. But they have been misjudged by his lowness, who assumes that everyone is just like himself… and are without “better judgement” or standards of behavior. Boy is he wrong! So yes, there will be more outrageous things intended to get that reaction… that supports the thesis that because of _______ he suffers undo persecution and opposition.
He really needs to be careful what he’s wishing for…
Recently went to Puerto Rico, in part in hopes of seeing El Yunque National Forest and the forts in Old San Juan.
The official looking barricades placed across the road were made of plastic and not at all difficult to move. YMMV.
I’ve had friends say for some time, and I’ve thought for some time, what PPV just noted. I believe Obama, and likely Reid and Pelosi among others, want instability to use as an excuse to grab more power, very possibly by martial law. Pretty much everything he does goes along with this, including having DOJ personnel go around to help organize demonstrations for Trayvon and the recent provocative acts.
I also believe he’s pathologically narcissistic, a character flaw which could well provoke a knee-jerk response. It shows in his overall behavior http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/01/now_we_know_who_was_right_about_obama.html as well as in his body language http://www.bitsofws.com/index.php/2009/08/01/obamas-revealing-body-language/ This lengthy video (which I haven’t watched all the way through) seems to make a very persuasive case for the existence of that pathology http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmwNrNaTcs4
Three more years (by the current schedule). What’s next?
Matt, another Says:

I’m planning to augment the firewood supply (sans permit), which I tend to do anyway, but this will feel like much more fun. But I guess I won’t get a special govt shutdown civil disobedience star since I do it routinely under normal circumstances. Darn. ;-(
Karen, maybe we can get you an honorary civil disobedience star.
That would be pleasant. Thankyou Matt, another.
We should send each critter a letter, in large bold type, that says
“YOUR DOING A HELL OF JOB, BROWNIE!”
Dan
Let’s see….got my letter and my current insurance is being CANCELLED and my “new” insurance is going up 220% higher than the old with higher premiums and higher deductibles….discovered it would be much “better on me” financially if I sat on my hiney and didn’t work my farm, my general store, my writing, or anything else….I don’t usually use profanity of any type but I’ll be DAMNED if these people are going to control my government or my life!!
and in my opinion, most of government would be much better if it STAYED SHUT DOWN!
BamaSuzy — Man, that is a sad (and painfully, increasingly common) story. And you name the situation all too well when you point out that you’d be better off not working. Obamacare may not be the final nail in the coffin for the middle and working classes. But it’s sure one more big nail.
This horrible law has set up a system of winners and losers, and the losers are anybody who tries to get ahead in life. Penalize middle-income folks, subsidize the poor … and you know what you get more of.
Swear away. Seems that’s a fine, sensible response to a real catastrophe.

Exactly. I don’t buy the theory they are doing this to provoke us. Instead I think it is standard, “punish the peons” policy (seen it at the state level several times). The problem is that that works only on people who believe in the govt. religion. Since it is working so poorly this time around, that is evidence there are a lot of new apostates out there. It’s also evidence of their continuing inability to control communication. All to the good if you ask me. I am enjoying this shutdown.
