Going to the dogs

I was planning on slowly working my way back to reality after the trip to Nicaragua. But no sooner had I returned than a client emergency (or several) came up. Reality caught me and wrestled me to the ground.

Those of you I owe emails may have to wait a while. (But then, knowing me and my bad email habits, you’re used to that, aren’t you?)

Meanwhile, have some dogs. And a cat or two.

  • Beloved stray gets a home after being hit by a car.
  • Dog saves her human after a snowmobile accident.
  • And while we’re still in this frigid winter (for another day or two yet!), another dog helps save its human after its human saves it from thin ice. (H/T to furrydoc for the last two)
  • On the less positive side of dogdom: I agree with Jennifer. It’s not Mickey’s fault he was badly raised, but the effort to save him after what he did is foolish. This pit bull should die.
  • The CBSNews.com report is loaded with inaccuracies. But its main claim is absolutely, happily true: A $100 donation left by the fugitive Barefoot Bandit “for the care of animals” back in 2010 has just raised over $1,700 for an animal shelter. That’s thanks to the good thinking and good heart of the veterinarian, who got the money back from the police nearly four years later.

And for some mindless entertainment, here’s Home Alone with Kaiser the cat and Nana the Border Collie.

I’m sure some victims of the Barefoot Bandit might have considered him a thorn in their sides, but somehow I can’t think of him as “one of Washington state’s most notorious fugitives”. Surely there have been worse criminals more threatening than he. Depends on how you perceive the word “notorious”, I guess.

Dogs? How about dog names? Yes, someone has studied this. I’ll link to the Fark thread instead of the article, because the article has a Javascript slideshow — pphththtphtphthtppp! And someone posted the names in the thread, and the thread is funnier anyway, including some nice pictures from Farkers.

    Most popular dog names

I once knew a black labrador named Zanzibar Buck-Buck McPhee. He’d answer to Buck, or McPhee, or Phee.
