Yesterday Neighbor J. took me to the Big City for a special treat. Not the utilitarian place I laughingly call the Big City. But the really cool place I laughingly call the Big City. So I’m behind on correspondence — especially on thanking people for subscribing to my Patreon. I’ll catch up with you. I promise! But it was a fine day. Even though it wasn’t a fine day. I took one of the new blog cameras with me, just in case. J. treated me to lunch at this incredible restaurant. I haven’t understood the point of people taking pictures…

Gun blogger Erin Palette was mauled by a 90-pound dog. In her face. The dog nearly severed her lips. The GoFundMe established by her friend Matthew House has more than met its goals, but it sounds as if there could be unexpected medical expenses ahead and a long rehabilitation. Oleg Volk is offering a wonderful incentive to larger donors. (H/T LN for the heads-up and for all three links)
Just got home from a day away. I learned that the Paladin Press close-out sale started last night. Fifty-five percent off on everything. They’re apparently going gangbusters. For those interested in my books, last I heard they had 53 copies of The Freedom Outlaws Handbook and 25 of The Bad Attitude Guide to Good Citizenship. I decided not to use my author’s prerogative to buy any of those copies. I have zero of either book. So if you want the originals, get ’em while you can from Paladin. At some point, I’ll likely be republishing TFOH with the help of…
Ava still has the energy of a puppy. She’s slim, trim, fast, and excitable. Given her breed mix and her condition, Furrydoc says not to be surprised if she lives to be 20 — and I’ll be happy if she does, as long as she’s healthy and content. So, until the other day when I was searching for a photo to use on Patreon, I totally failed to notice this: Ava at 19 months, April 2007 Ava at 12 years, October 2017 Several years ago a visitor commented on the whiteness of her muzzle and I said, “Oh, that’s just…
I tell ya, it wasn’t easy. Only one of my four browsers would allow me to set up the account — and the one that FINALLY allowed me to perform a full account setup won’t actually let me look at my own page. (Browser security; sometimes it’s a nuisance.) The browser that most adamantly refused to let me do the account setup lets me look at my page just fine. Go figure. Anyhow … here’s my new Patreon page. To subscribe, you need to have a Patreon account (which doesn’t appear to require anything too onerous or privacy-wrecking), and then…
Seen around town: It was posted on a stop sign on an obscure side street, but visible from a main road. I have no idea what it’s about. However, A Revealing Clew was on an adjacent fence post: a sign announcing the location of somebody’s wedding reception. Perhaps the new Mrs. Hendrickson (who neither hunts nor fishes nor camps?) jilted an outdoorsy boyfriend. Perhaps Mr. Hendrickson (who neither hunts nor fishes nor camps?) stole the girlfriend of an outdoorsy buddy. We’ll never know. But wouldn’t you love to? Seen around my yard: A few of the neighbors’ chickens and their…
Good luck to you in in Napa and Sonoma counties. Especially you people of Santa Rosa. It sounds as if this horror came up literally overnight and a lot of people have been lucky to survive it.
