Should I create a Patreon account?

Yesterday was one of those days. If I wasn’t spilling something I was knocking something over. If I wasn’t knocking something over I was stepping in something and tracking it onto the rug before I realized what I was carrying (thank you, neighbors’ unfenced dogs). If it wasn’t me breaking something, tracking something, or spilling something, it was Ava or the cat. By the time afternoon walkies came around, I feared leaving the house lest a tree fall on me. Then I decided if I stayed in, a tree might fall on me. So Ava and I headed for the…

Any deep thoughts on November 4?

You may have heard that Antifa and other such marginal groups as the Revolutionary Communist Party* are planning a big to-do on Saturday, November 4. This is no average street-violence to-do. No, this is the first day of the revolution. Or a civil war. Depending on which group’s doing the shouting. Or maybe just a day of (misnamed) anarchy. A number of conservative websites are crying alarm. We had some conversation about this over at Claire’s Cabal. One person was pretty apprehensive. A couple said they’d either be taking extra preps with them that day or would avoid urban areas…

Weekend links

  • Poo widdle Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. Desperately signaling his “progressive” virtues while running off to “get treatment” for being a jerk to women (and everybody else).
  • Personally, though, I hope his movie company doesn’t collapse. ‘Cause while that man may be an anti-gun suck and the biggest a*hole ever, he truly does have a magic touch when it comes to choosing films.
  • Where the NRA caves, once again Ohioans for Concealed Carry stands on principle (and on genuine common sense).

This is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7, whose photo was taken with a Nikon Coolpix P6000. This is a Nikon Coolpix P6000 (and extras), whose photo was taken with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7. One person responded to my bleg for a new blogging camera. But whotta response. It goes without saying that both of these cameras go beyond the little point-and-shoot I was looking for. The Nikon goes beyond any camera I ever owned at any time or ever imagined owning. When the giver offered me my choice of the two, I responded, “You choose — and surprise me.” Well ……

    Simple pleasures for unpleasurable times

If you’ve been here a while, you know I’m not much of a cook. But I have my little specialties. Simple things. One is a stir-fry I concocted about a year ago. You begin with coconut oil if you have it; olive oil and butter if you don’t. Then in go chicken and veggies. The sauce is a few generous shakes of rice vinegar flavored with oregano and basil and a few slightly less generous shakes of Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce (accept no substitutes). The final step is a judicious grinding of Trader Joe’s Everyday Seasoning. —– Now, Trader…

    Dealers of death

Please pardon me if this is nothing but stream of consciousness. The final thing I did yesterday evening before turning out the light was finish reading Jeff Guinn’s The Road to Jonestown. The book is as enthralling as it is appalling. I read every word of it, down to the acknowledgements and the end notes, trying to comprehend what cruel trick of the human brain made hundreds of people willing to follow such an obviously megalomaniacal charlatan as Jim Jones unto death. Guinn gives as much information as you’d ever want to know about how Jones became what he became…
