Puppycide documentary: last day

Oz Media has met and exceeded its Kickstarter campaign goal. They’re 110% funded for a half-hour production. The Puppycide documentary will be made. (Assuming the Oz folks are as good as their word and a meteor doesn’t smack the earth. Or whatever.) AND there’s lots of cool swag for project backers. Just 10 hours to go on the campaign in case you’re interested.

Tyger Gilbert calendar

Tyger Gilbert is a freedomista and a superb photographer who specializes in nature and especially Arizona landscapes. He has long allowed widespread use of his images without a ton of strings. Now he’s published a gorgeous 2014 scenic calendar. He also has a recent book on the beauty of Arizona. NFI on my part. But he’s a good guy and this is good work, so if you’ve got somebody on your gift list …

Christmas shopping VII: Pets and animal lovers

Okay, here we go. This will be the penultimate Amazon Christmas shopping list. It’s about pets and other animals. And this one’s not strictly Amazon. If you or anybody on your gift list is looking for information on raising chickens, goats, rabbits, or any farm animals the place to go is the Backwoods Home Book Store. You’ll find livestock books under multiple categories, including Animals & Pets, Food Production, and Self-Sufficiency. I have NFI in BHM Book Store sales (except for two books I wrote). But without BHM, this blog wouldn’t exist. They’re good people. —– Now on to Amazon…

Christmas shopping IV: gunstuff!

Darned shame we can’t buy guns and ammo* on Amazon.com. But that doesn’t mean we can’t buy plenty of gunstuff. (And fortunately, many of us do.) It’s a little hard to come up with a highly targeted list of Amazon gunthings because … well, you know. No two gun owners have the same needs or styles. And many battles have spattered Internet forums with pixelated gore over whether steel is better than combat tupperware or .45 ACP better than 9mm parabellum. So I’m aiming here to give you some hopefully non-controversial inspiration. For the lady in your life (which, of…

Puppycide Kickstarter campaign has relaunched!

Hooray! The Kickstarter campaign to fund Puppycide: The Documentary has relaunched! Last time, they drew more than $60,000 in pledges from nearly 1,000 supporters. But their goal was $100,000 and Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. Now they’ve named a more modest goal: $40,000, with the aim of making a 30-minute film instead of full-length feature. The donors are already rushing back, and I’ve rushed with ’em. It appears that supporters are pledging more than before. If you pledged during the last effort, I hope you’ll have another go.

Snooping in Seattle … in the name of providing a “service.” Has the quality of social workers always been this dismal? Fear of terrorism makes people stupid. Sure, we knew that. But check out that stat about the odds of being killed by a terrorist vs a cop! What’s it like being a geek in prison? More and more Americans need to know. Looks as if Catching Fire is going to be as good as the first Hunger Games movie. Interesting, too, how this reviewer automatically uses terms making parallels with today’s USA. Weekend links

The fourth shock wave of ObamaCare is about to strike And even Obama’s hometown paper says, “Stop digging, start over.” The Dallas Buyers Club is in my Netflix queue for sure. From everything I’ve read or heard, it’s a spectacular indictment of big government (specifically the death-dealing FDA) and a celebration of Outlaw entrepreneurism. That it stars Matthew McConaughey is merely a plus. Another long-time outdoors writer and sportsman who’s shocked to learn that laws passed against eeeeeeevvil gun owners also — oops! — apply to him. (H/T to LA) “Can’t we all just get along?” “Well, ah, no.” Mike…

Three awesome videos

For your weekend viewing pleasure. Whoof! This would be amazing even it weren’t being performed by a 53-year-old movie star. It’s oddly beautiful, besides. Wind-powered monsters. You’d swear they were alive. (More here) And finally Naked Dancing Swedes. You’ll have to click on the link to watch it. YouTube has this locked away behind an “adults only” login. So I can’t embed it and am sending you to an alternative (non-locked) site. And yeah … it’s kinda R-rated. But funny.

Puppycide Kickstarter campaign: last three days

Sadly, it looks as if it’s going to take a miracle to get the Puppycide documentary Kickstarter campaign to its goal. They’ve gotten some strong support — just not enough of it. I received an email update from them today saying that anybody who donates $150 or more will now get all of these items: – This Just Announced Hoodie – Signed Movie Poster – Bandana and Frisbee – DVD of finished film – Bumper sticker – Digital download of the finished film – And campaign updates I’m going to up my contribution. If they don’t make goal, nobody pays…

Christmas shopping: Books (non-fiction)

It’s that time of year again. Over the next month I’ll be posting a series of Amazon gift suggestions geared toward freedomistas and preppers and those who love them. Some of these posts will have themes (e.g. home security gear, emergency food, gourmet food, flashlights, cool toys), others not. Expect about two of these posts a week between now and mid-December to help you with your Christmas shopping. Today’s theme is that Amazon classic: books. Specifically non-fiction books. Will probably have a post on freedomista novels later. 1. 50 Dangerous Things (You Should Let Your Children Do) 2. Zero to…
