Category: Dogs and (grudgingly) cats
No description needed. Dogs are life. Cats are also necessary on the Internet.
First, thanks for all the advice on hosting sites yesterday. I still haven’t decided, but your recommendations have helped (and are helping) me refine wants and needs for the new site. Right now it’s between HostGator and Hawk Host (recommended by Tom Knapp and Brad R, respectively) and HostWinds (not recommended by anybody but coming up to the top on a lot of my criteria). —– Attended an event yesterday at which the Republocrats and the Democans had competing back-to-back booths. Nice high wall between them to avoid riots among competing factions of statists, but still amusing placement. It was…
Friend G. and I went to a dog-rescue fundraising event this weekend with her dog Annabelle. Ava, known as the Queen of Mean around other dogs, was not invited to attend. Mer Majesty stayed home, well attended by neighbor J. At the event, there were elegant purebreds … And hapless little mutt-pups. The woman trying to corral that rambunctious little guy is his foster mom. The pup, now 14 weeks old, came into rescue after an unconscionable jackass deliberately stomped on his leg. Abuse hasn’t stopped him from loving everybody and wanting to get into everything. (The foster mom said…
My neighbor Andy built a number of pet coffins. He did this first for a neighbor’s 19-year-old dog. Then he started more to sell on eBay. Then one fine day he had a stroke and was gone like that. His widow, J., let me choose among the smaller boxes for Robbie’s ashes. “Smaller” is a matter of perception. One box was a clear standout despite being only partially finished. That box I brought home. But small it’s not. I filled the nail holes and cracks yesterday and now am contemplating its decoration. Andy would have stained and sealed it. I…
I’m online more than expected this week — coordinating on the website-to-be, thanking wonderful donors, chasing rainbows, keeping ahead of runaway trucks. You know, the usual. So I figure you guys might as well benefit from some extra posting while I’m at it. Three years — or more — for possession of an eeeeevil BB gun? Only in New Jersey. I hope this poor schmuck’s fight goes well. (H/T DB) I’ve always admired Peter Theil. So libertarian. So out-of-the-box. So creatively cheeky. But I didn’t realize he was the founder and chief investor in the ghastly, government-sucking, privacy-raping, Tolkein-savaging Palantir.…
… not in his old familiar bully-boy form, of course. But he’s home. The only other time I had a private cremation (for Jasmine), my dog came home in a plain cardboard box. This time, Robbie arrived in this sweet little tin. An envelope claimed his certificate of cremation was within. Skeptical me figured the pet cemetery was offering confirmation that this little box really did contain the mortal remains of my bully boy. After all, the potential trust issues with cremation are enormous. How do I know this is really Robbie? Not somebody’s cat? Or a mixed-up batch of…
