Obaminable impossibility

As we speak, Dear Leader is about to announce that — lucky you! — you can keep your inferior, inadequate, cancer-covering, less expensive, lower-deductible health insurance after all. For a while. Except that, as even NPR understands, that’s mostly impossible due to all the hurdles insurance companies had to go through to be “allowed” to cancel old plans and the hurdles they’ll have to go through to be “allowed” to keep them. Not to mention the millions — billions? — they’ve spent making internal changes and notifying policyholders. And what’s their motivation undoing it all and doing it all again…

Christmas shopping, II: warmth and light

It’s time for another Amazon Christmas-shopping list. Today’s theme: warmth and light. That covers a lot of territory, with some items for preppers, and some cozy things for anybody at all. Here we go: 1. Natural Comfort Microfiber Comforter — a lightweight “down-alternative” comforter that’s gotten rave reviews. 2. If you or somebody on your Christmas list has all-electric heat (as we in the Northwest tend to), an indoor propane emergency heater is handy to have. I know from experience. The Mr. Heater Portable Buddy and Big Buddy are old reliables. Mr Heater makes something bigger, too. And there are…

Actions. Consequences. Lack of recognition thereof.

Her name is Adriana. No surname revealed. You know her better as the original smiling face of the Obamacare website. She now claims she’s being “cyberbullied.” What she really means is she’s become part of the political joke around The Big Failure. Cyberbullying? Hyperbole. We’re not talking death threats or threats to reveal her innermost secrets. We’re talking snide commentary. Still, I felt sorry for her. I figured she was just some stock photo subject or a model who signed a release without knowing how her mug was going to be used. Not her fault she became the Face of…

Puppycide Kickstarter campaign: last three days

Sadly, it looks as if it’s going to take a miracle to get the Puppycide documentary Kickstarter campaign to its goal. They’ve gotten some strong support — just not enough of it. I received an email update from them today saying that anybody who donates $150 or more will now get all of these items: – This Just Announced Hoodie – Signed Movie Poster – Bandana and Frisbee – DVD of finished film – Bumper sticker – Digital download of the finished film – And campaign updates I’m going to up my contribution. If they don’t make goal, nobody pays…

A second case of police probe-ity

Oh my. It seems one case of official anal probing just wasn’t enough. Another man is now suing over the same offense. But of course, both committed heinous crimes that brought them to the attention of police. One failed to stop fully at a stop sign coming out of a parking lot. The other may have neglected to signal for a turn. Villains! Evil-doers! They’re lucky they weren’t both summarily shot or tasered to death.

Coming out of your personal closet

This 10-minute TED talk is a wonder of wisdom and humor. Ash Beckham is a lesbian. But even if you think you’re totally tired of hearing about people’s sexual identity, this is different. Her message is universal — and delightful. It just might be helpful for anybody who feels stuck in an emotional closet or has something difficult to say and can’t figure out how.

Christmas shopping: Books (non-fiction)

It’s that time of year again. Over the next month I’ll be posting a series of Amazon gift suggestions geared toward freedomistas and preppers and those who love them. Some of these posts will have themes (e.g. home security gear, emergency food, gourmet food, flashlights, cool toys), others not. Expect about two of these posts a week between now and mid-December to help you with your Christmas shopping. Today’s theme is that Amazon classic: books. Specifically non-fiction books. Will probably have a post on freedomista novels later. 1. 50 Dangerous Things (You Should Let Your Children Do) 2. Zero to…

And be of good cheer …

… knowing how quickly (and non-violently) even the worst regimes can fall. (The best parts are toward the end. Of the article, not the regime.) NOTE: The article is an oldie. But a goodie. Thought we could all use the reminder and the encouragement.

Weekend links

Man. Only in a police state does anybody need to publish — or take — advice like this. The Southern Poverty Law Center gets more stupidly weird every year. So when is the MSM going to catch on? From Clark at Popehat: “A Modest Argument About Police Culture Culminating in a Reference to the Hare Psychopathy Checklist.” Chase isn’t the only bank in trouble. How much longer will it be before these “troubles” finally have their natural consequence? (Via S.) Why the Brits (though presumably not the British readers of Living Freedom) love Big Brother. The Obamacare Dozen. That is,…
