  • Wow whotta way to go! And what a perfect song to be performing at the time. (H/T L.A.)
  • Twelve ways to increase your anonymity and security online. Very geeky and hardcore, but very good. (H/T Shel in comments) And for the non-geeks: is there a path forward for those who want online security but quail at the thought of TOR or an offshore VPN?
  • You ’60s and ’70s people — you Illuminatus! fans — want a blast from the past? This was obviously written a long time ago when Robert Anton Wilson was still alive, but the crazy life of Kerry Thornley is always worth a re-visit.
  • Is F*c*b**k controlling the news its users see? Are there reporters naive enough to be thinking otherwise? This becomes more and more of a problem as billions turn to a narrower range of online sources for everything. FB: the new MSM.
  • Of course, it could be worse. It could be Google.
  • Ninth Circuit court — the previously infamous 9th Circuit — says there’s a Second Amendment right for gun stores, too. (Or rather, an individual right to be able to acquire guns.) And the WaPo, the always infamous WaPo, prints the recaps of both Eugene Volokh and David Kopel. Oh, the times they are a’ changin’ …
  • So. Do you think the whole Obama in the girls’ bathroom thing will hold up in the courts? And isn’t it downright embarrassing, as well as tyrannical, that a president is involving himself in this (you’ll pardon the expression) sh*t?
  • Historian asks if the myth of the Constitution could be made real.
  • Gosh, it’s a good thing all the big issues like terrorism and border security have been solved. Otherwise, this would just be a wildly nutty act of mission creep by the DHS.

Obama is a lame duck, and has no legacy to lose.

OTOH Republicans have an election to lose. They could be hitting Hillary and Bernie with unemployment, the “affordability” of the ACA, gun control*, Hillary’s legal problems, the deficit, etc. They could be staging tours of Cuba and Argentina as examples of socialism.

But what am I getting RP emails about? What are conservative pundits, cartoonists, and the media focusing on? Restroom perverts.

    Just call Obama “Mr. Pavlov.”

    * Texas just passed 1,000,000 licenses to carry.

Bitcoin mixer? Oy! Overall, a good article, but the number of people who will actually follow all that advice is pretty small. Yeah, I’m a pessimist. But we’re still in the mode where most folks will take convenience over security. Witness the Internet of Things, which is largely unsecured. But you can use your phone to change the color of your light bulb!

The sweet, sexy smell of old books is a perfume fad. Well, there are worse things to smell like.

Obama’s letter not only treats his presidency unseriously …

Somebody wrote that with a straight face?

    Exactly right LarryA.

The news and other media as well as the Republicans could be talking about Hilla … OMG is that a demonduck?

Bread and circuses where have I heard that before?

H/T to Dan Shine the cartoonist for the demonduck character.

    Sheesh …
My fingers must still think this is the 13th.
    Dan SHIVE not Shine.

Creator of a character the Demon Duck which is a rapid and unexplained subject change when the story line gets “touchy”.

Explaining a joke really kills them doesn’t it?

Wait! Is that a Demon Duck? (rolls eyes)

    sorry

Twelve ways to increase your anonymity – Recommends to use, at a minimum, M*cr#s&ft Security Essentials. Unless you trust MS (you should not) never use Security Essentials. It captures your entire index and sends it to MS daily. Yup, MS then knows every file on your PC. Get ya a quality name that you trust instead.

The bathroom issue makes perfect sense if (1) it provides an effective distraction and (2) Joan Rivers was correct. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et38_Ufv-Jw There’s plenty of stuff on YouTube to make one take that possibility seriously. She didn’t live all that long afterwards, as you remember.

Is there any way to detect if a keylogger has been installed on your pc or mac?

I’ve been cautious over the decades but it would be nice to confirm.

VPN are not a perfect solution. This site, is an example of a content provider that blocks public VPN providers, or at least mine. So if I want to read your content, I have to share that with my ISP.
