T’was the night before voting …

An excerpt. The rest is here.

T’was the night before voting when all through the land,
Collectivists were clamoring to take command.
Their platforms were posted on Facebook with care,
In hopes that Control! soon would be theirs.
Bernistas were nestled all snug in their beds,
While dreams of “free” college danced in their heads.

And the socialists of the left, and the protectionists of the right,
Had a common enemy: free trade, to fight.
When down in the market there arose such a clatter,
They suspended debating to see what was the matter!
Away to their telescreens they flew like a flash.
Horror of horrors! Prols with cash!!

The storefront displays and the new fallen snow
Revealed Prols toting packages! How could it be so?
When what to their statist eyes should appear,
But imports from China and lands far and near!
Happy people exchanging with opportunism,
They hissed at each other: “capitalism!”

More rapid than rats, the bureaucrats they came.
They pointed and shouted, “Your greed is to blame!”
Now taxes! Now tariffs! Now more legislation!
It must be the state that directs all creation!
Medicare without limits, and we must build a wall.
Now tax away, tax away, tax away all!

I was at a shindig Friday, and across the dinner table the parent of high-school students was saying how wonderful it would be if Congress gave his offspring free college educations.

I reminded him that every year he still pays well over $1,000 in property taxes to the local Independent School District for his “free” high school education, that he would continue to do so for the rest of his life, and that thereafter the ISD would collect property taxes on his cemetery plot, for eternity.

His neighbor chimed in, “And if you think that’s a bad bargain, I’m paying for that same ‘free’ public high school education even though I didn’t go, and paid again to graduate from a better private school.”

Speaking of v*ting: I’m traveling today, on my way home from a cycling event combined with a visit with my sisters (I love efficiency, don’t you?). So I find myself sitting over “breakfast” in a Super 8 (don’t laugh, it’s cheap!) in central Arkansas, reading the internet in my phone. And they have CNN on the telescreen. That’s not something I’m ordinarily exposed to, thank God. I didn’t know, really, that things had gotten this bad, this fast. The clownish, tone-deaf, strident lefty propaganda … did you ever see that movie “Idiocracy?” The teevee news broadcast? It’s here. Sounds just like it. Any minute now, I expect to hear about the latest doings of the Exxxtreme Court. I tell you, if I could just get the remote, I’d try to switch it to the Violence Channel and catch an episode of “Ow, My Balls.”

Well, I’ve got to get rolling. Gonna try to miss the Great Garbage Avalanche of 2018.

    We are doomed!
