“…the freedom of choosing what kind of person I want to be.”
This is a strong and intelligent woman, and I knew that from what I’d heard and read before, but this interview brought home that fact.
“…this obsession I had, of protecting my soul…” is a very cognizant remark. The captors, militant as they were, would not understand that she was never theirs; as long as she had her mind, she was always more in control than they were of her.
This reminds me of a song I used to listen to years ago, one of the lines went “They can hold me, but I’ll never be in their possession.”
