Simple pleasures for unpleasurable times

If you’ve been here a while, you know I’m not much of a cook. But I have my little specialties. Simple things. One is a stir-fry I concocted about a year ago. You begin with coconut oil if you have it; olive oil and butter if you don’t. Then in go chicken and veggies. Dealers of death

Please pardon me if this is nothing but stream of consciousness. The final thing I did yesterday evening before turning out the light was finish reading Jeff Guinn’s The Road to Jonestown. • New Equifax CEO makes noises as if he’s really sorry (his company’s stock has taken a giant dump) and intends to take real steps to salvage relations with the abused public. It’s something.
  • Does it really take returning to 1950s technology? I hope not. But stranger things have happened (like security-conscious nerds tippy-tapping on typewriters).

  • For this they won a million bux???

Yup. A million buck prize for a “smart” holster that … get this: Has a battery that lasts half a day if you draw your gun six times (and a maximum of 3.5 days if you never draw your gun at all), making practice sessions sooooo quick and easy; Also relies on fingerprint ID (with all the usual fallabilities that implies); And voice ID (ditto); ANNNNND an RFID reader (ditto); And — ta da! — puts a bar through the trigger guard. For your safety. Man. Rube Goldberg probably wishes he were still alive. He’d be a multiple gazillionaire now.
