Still deadlining, but feeling marginally more sane … Another attempt to destroy family farming. This time through bureaucratic good intentions child-safety stupidity. (Tip o’ hat to Dan over at Earthineer.) The NYTimes is stunned to discover clothing designed for concealed carry and other tool-bearing purposes. Rodney King, 20 years after. Oh. You mean that border fence was designed to keep Mexicans in??? The latest atrocity example of “just following procedures” at the TSA. Burger King — which has lately made a move toward upscaling the fast-food biz — is now going to cage-free eggs and pork. Good for BK. The…

Hey, cops!

There’s a perfectly sensible manual designed to help you deal with dogs. If you give a damn, read & heed it. We non-cops might want to see that our local PDs get copies of the thing. It would be good for everybody to see more stories like this (H/T naturegirl) and a lot fewer of these.

Monday miscellany

Of course! This is exactly what the U.S. needs: a federal government that can do more. Now why didn’t we think of that? How exactly does a “civil servant” steal $30 million from a town of 12,000? Ten completely ridiculous (and not necessarily SFW) road signs. (Tip o’ hat to C^2.) SOPA is dead. Long live CISPA! Or maybe we should say SOPA is dead; will somebody fer cryin’ out loud put a stake in its heart and bury it at the crossroads??? Does that take-away-your-passport-if-you-haven’t-paid-your-taxes law that’s making its way through Congress also give the IRS the authority to…

Justice for Cisco

Cop goes to wrong house. Draws gun on innocent man. Murders man’s dog. Now friends are trying to get justice. I usually leave the puppycide blogging to Radley Balko; I can’t bear it. But this is — was — a beautiful cattle dog, and those have been so much on the blog lately. In fact, I see Balko has blogged two puppycide cases today, including this one. The other one was also a heeler mix. Well, the more this news travels, the better. Justice for Cisco. Stop the vicious coward cops. ADDED: Civil Rights Examiner article with details from someone…

The heartless pig slaughter goes on

The slaughter continues. In Michigan, farmers are killing their own pigs out of fear of their state government. Here’s an account from Natural News. But resistance is building. Here’s email from Greg “Moose Man” Johnson (forwarded by D; original capitilization and punctuation retained; a few redundant or personal passages cut): DNR has Breached Bio-security at two Heritage Breed Farms Big Green trucks containing a specialized task force of DNR agents has rolled across Deer Tracks Ranch and Renegade Ranch this past week. Yes, there are dozens of Dead Pigs in Michigan. This needless slaughter of innocent pigs rest solely on…

Friday miscellany

Stuff I’ve been collecting for you while having the living room flooring done, ripping siding off the house, and extracting rusted bicycles from the foliage.* Oh, and deadlining, too. “Neighbors confront alcoholic child abuser about his lawn.” (Don’t worry, it’s only The Onion this time.) Not that you actually needed proof that government is filled with idiots … An ISP that puts privacy first? Did you know there was a U.S. holiday called Loyalty Day? I didn’t. But it’s coming right up. Clearly we need to celebrate! “Born this way.” This article would be fascinating if it admitted the existence…

Update: A county’s war on the little guy

Last June, I posted about a Southern California county’s all-out war on the little guy — and the little guy’s property rights. At the time, nobody was really sure why thuggish “code enforcement” teams were rampaging across the Antelope Valley, evicting homeowners and demanding that people tear down their homes. But we shouldn’t be surprised to learn that it turns out to be yet another post-Kelo landgrab by a government on behalf of government cronies. (H/T to S for the update.) This time it’s the so-called green energy industry. And how can you blame them? After they get billions in…

Wednesday miscellany

Your hilarious dog story of the day, courtesy of naturegirl. (Which probably would have ended up much less hilarious had American cops been the ones doing the window smashing.) And so I don’t neglect you cat people, here. It’s not funny or even particularly dramatic. Just cuuuuuuuuute. Not so cute: The U.S. standard of living has fallen more than 50 percent. Depending on how you look at it. I hope I don’t ever have to do that. Especially when I’m 80. A big hurtful, annoying EFF-U to Arizona, spoken as only Ken from Popehat can speak write. Two for the…

Feds raid Oaksterdam University

B&^%$#@s. Obama could have stopped all these fed raids years ago with … what, a memo to each agency? One executive order? (Because one of the few legitimate purposes of EOs is to set executive policies and instruct federal agencies.) But nooooo. Presidents come and go. Bureaucratic fiefdoms remain impregnable. And their minions grow ever-nastier. ADDED: Mother Jones has a pretty good take on this, too. And they don’t spare Obama. In fact, they point out that he is actually outpacing the Busheviks in number of raids. Ain’t that just the way it goes? Ratcheting, ratcheting ever tighter. Time once…

In China: rescuing dogs from the butcher. Survival Singles or doomsday dating. (Tip o’ hat to C^2) Memo to the fedgov: How not to attract tourists. The tale of Weela the lifesaving pit bull. Found this after a discussion of pit bulls came up in yesterday’s comments. It’s from quite a while back, but a wonderful story. Well. That about defines desperation. Ick. When clark mentioned in a recent comment section that a state government was about to raid small farms and slaughter their hogs, I wasn’t sure what he was talking about. But it’s pretty awful. He’s the nice,…
