Starting off with a smile: The Swiss Reaper. Not so funny: Bovard on the “soft racism” of setting lower expectations for minorities in the classroom. Ugh. Heck, if they were going to ban the poster, it should have been for stupid gun handling, not the shadow of a nipple. (Mildly NSFW.) Suit says V.A. cops stomped on an old vet’s head because he was tired of waiting for treatment. Well, that’s one way to get rid of pesky, resource-consuming patients. You don’t even have to take the time for “death panels.” The Shawshank Residuals. Well deserved. When Earth had two…

Is is ominous that these two stories came out within days of each other? Pills containing tracking chips are now being tested on real people. (H/T Wendy) The fedgov is creating a “biosurveillance” system to gain near real-time access to our medical records. In the name of “national security,” of course. And is it even more ominous that these plans are moving ahead just as the fedgov consolidates its control over the U.S. entire U.S. medical system?
Apparently neither the Fourth nor the Second Amendment apply when it’s for your own good. (H/T PB from comments.) The real problem, of course, would be solved by getting rid of government schools and all their rigid one-size-fits-allism. Still, this short video is an interesting analysis of what’s being done to boys. And to society’s future. (H/T MJR) Related to the story Gunny alerted us to the other day, the intended target in that Texas case has been ordered to recant her statements to the press. As a condition of parole. Can you spell “First amendment abuse”? What if female…
Pop quiz! Don’t worry, only one question: What role do submachine guns play in the inspection of meat, the granting of farm subsidies, or the administration of food stamps? (The link is to PawPaw’s House. PawPaw is a cop and even he doesn’t like this one bit.) Bovard on Obama and cynicism. This reminds me once again how glad I am that Obama is so inept. Politicians who talk like he does are dangerous when they’re actually competent. Another schoolkid gets turned over to the cops. For a doodle. Government-run health care. ‘Nuff said. California sends another business packing off…
Aw, da poo widdle coppie. Him aw hurt because him being shunned after him was a bad coppie and … somebody decided to howl loud, long, and amazingly effectively for justice. Um, yeah. I don’t think I’ll be buying any new cars, thank you. (H/T J) Harry Reid’s Rule #1: Billionaires buying government are only bad when you disagree with them. (Jon Stewart whacks Reid with a cluebat.) With Google, I often think lately that its high-minded motto, “Don’t be evil,” was never anything but a cover for the slimy things it intended to get away with Apple, too. I…
It’s funny how so many “bad guys” think they’re the “good guys.” Woman has neighbors’ home bulldozed because she doesn’t approve of them. National mortgage database: good for regulators, bad for the rest of us. Financial secrets of the Amish. (Never mind the wide-eyed yuppie tone; the info is good.) While I’m dubious about Bitcoin, the underlying problem is real. And speaking of people who helpfully fill in potholes, no good deed goes unpunished. (H/T MJR for 2) Why Christians may regret getting government endorsement for prayers at public meetings. Now there’s a question nobody should have to think about.…
Eighty-four square feet, 305 possessions. I’m glad my own tiny-house phase is over, but I’m also glad I had it. I’m really glad it never went down to 84 square feet. Join the IRS. Cheat on your taxes. Misbehave. Win awards. Where do I sign up! Not just renegade ranchers, but the Texas attorney general, is ready to say, “Come and take it! (H/T LarryA in comments.) Rebels, rebels everywhere. And some intriguing background on who really “owns” all that Nevada land. (H/T Pat and naturegirl in comments.) Fellow plane passengers perform one, tiny non-violent act of resistance to save…
So … some uninsured Californians get covered under Obamacare. Whoopee. Months later they’re desperately banging on the doors of free clinics for the uninsured because they can’t get doctors to see them. (How many of us kept shouting, “It’s not about ‘coverage.’ It’s about access to actual care!”) Wanna see the impact of state sales taxes on business? Check out Amazon’s numbers. (Well, that may help explain why after a strong start to the year, my personal Amazon links are producing spit and bubble gum this month.) Could low blood sugar be wrecking your marriage? So this is what the…
I’ve been trying to find out how many New Yorkers dutifully lined up by yesterday’s deadline to get their yellow Star of David badges “assault weapon” registration forms. New York officials aren’t telling. Unofficial estimates are interesting. In Seattle (where cops have been under federal scrutiny for being such brutes), apparently police aren’t the only badge-wearing thugs. My apologies to LarryA for not linking this the other day, but it’s a good one even if I’m late with it. “Women’s intuition” and concealed carry meet a very surprised robber. One more reason to exercise no matter how old you are:…
I’ve told you before that a longtime friend of this blog is dying. Cancer. And the disease is taking its own long, harrowing time. When I’ve etalked with him, he’s seemed in good spirits, though tired. It’s much harder on his wife, he says. And in my few contacts with her, I see. Yesterday she sent me the following and gave permission to post it. The following words are hers: —– I have been introspective for the past few days. I am rambling here so please forgive me. F. and I have spent a good part of our youth preparing…
