Heh. Carl-Bear Bussjaeger has an idea for those who are likely to be reclassified as “gun dealers” by Obama fiat: comply, comply, comply, comply … and comply some more. Very good one from Mas Ayoob: Five myths of gun fighting. Until recently, the common assumption was that carefree, laid-back people lived longer, healthier lives and that anxiety and worry were bad for you. Lots of research these days points away from that belief. Here’s one more datapoint. Anxious people process threats in a part of the brain devoted to action. The Bill Clinton effect or why liberals may be more…

Those blood-sucking vermin in state and national capitals and city halls everywhere
The five “best” drug scares of 2015. This year’s weirdest science stories. Fourteen — maybe 15 — ways to avoid the Obamacare tax. (Per A.G. in comments.) Thirteen things credit card companies know about you that might make you cringe. Well, thank heaven it wasn’t “gun violence.” Another Darwin Award nominee, courtesy of absorption in mobile device. How embarrassing to die of pure stupid. But hey — at least it wasn’t “gun violence”! In praise of Glock. Ross Douthat on cracks in the liberal order. Not meaning “liberal” as in that thing that “progressives” don’t want to be called these…
Father gets into a stand-off with police to prevent a hospital from taking his “brain dead” son off life support. Happened earlier this year but the follow-up is what’s making this a Christmas-season story. Pot for the homeless. (H/T jed) Also from jed: all the SF books to binge read over the holidays. (Can’t vouch for them myself ’cause I haven’t read any of them. If you’re buying, you know where to purchase them.) Dave Barry’s year in review. (I’ve lost track of the people who’ve sent this one to me; it’s definitely been making the rounds.) Jim Bovard’s Raging…
Whatever you think (or whether you think) of Caitlyn Jenner, this is good. Seems Caitlyn refuses to toe the politically correct line on victimology. Meet the lobbyists who represent the world’s worst dictators to Your Representatives in Washington. I failed to acknowledge two very big historic dates earlier this week. First, the ratification of the Bill of Rights. Second, the Boston Tea Party. Here’s an interesting retrospective on the tea party. (Amusing how the Brahmins downplayed it.) And here’s an eyewitness account. You, too can evade the no-fly list. (Well, maybe. I’m sure this wouldn’t work for international flights where…
Yes! We must ban guns. So that gangs of robbers will have to use alternatives. (H/T MJR) Obama cynically decries cynicism. ISIS judge says kill all the “defective” children. I guess Middle Eastern mommies and daddies should be glad it’s being done by “humane” methods rather than public beheadings or burning the infants alive in cages. Patrick Buchanan asks whether elites will blow up the GOP. He then proceeds to chronicle how the GOP has already been blown up. Interesting glimpse at history and (these days non) smoke-filled rooms, though. It’s always hard to tell a real crisis from one…
Jim Bovard on our fearmongering president. Charles C.W. Cooke does it again. Our right to bear arms is not up for debate. (Heck, even that elitist, statist pig Alexander Hamilton knew that.) Well. So much for all that oh-so-careful vetting. Surprise, surprise. Iran lies and Obama just nods like a bobblehead doll. Alas, the middle class is now a minority. The graph says it most vividly. You can feel the squeeze. LOL! Glenn Harlan Reynolds on Donald Trump as the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. (Or to put it another way, when leaders are fiddling while nations burn you don’t get John…
For the first time in days it’s not drenching and flooding. Oh, there’s a little hail here and there. A few scattered thunder-boomers. The wetland across the road is extremely wet. And my waterfall (yes, I have my own personal waterfall, but only when the weather is like this) is merrily burbling away. Other than that, it’s lovely. Blue. Dry. Gave me a chance to put the dogs in the yard and go out and tape up a few more seams on Old Blue. Taping worked as a proof-of-concept but I apparently missed a few spots, first go-round. More weather…
They shouldn’t have euthanized the alligator. Should have given him a medal. No, Colbert. The problem isn’t that you don’t have to show ID to buy ammo. The problem is that you do have to show it to buy Sudafed. This is how tyranny creeps its creepy little way into our heads. Barack Obama … um created Donald Trump. Two good ones from TZP: Bear Bussjaeger’s “Speaking Ill of the Dead” and William Lehman’s guest commentary, “Controlled Violence, or Pistols and Other Things that Go Boom”. Subscribers to TZP alerts got an early look at both of these. Guess you…
Americans aren’t as politically polarized as pols and the MSM would have us imagine. Among other things we’re united in distrusting the government. (H/T PT) Turn in your standard-capacity magazines orders L.A. gov. Then … crickets … Not one. Not a single one. The president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University says he’s not running a day care. And George Will asks: American higher education — higher than what, exactly? The push to ban cash grows louder as currencies race for the bottom. One difference in this article: it lists various ways people might (and will) dodge the coming cash bans. Not…
