No description needed. Dogs are life. Cats are also necessary on the Internet.

Beaded guns. Yes, very, very weird. Cops in Hawaii assert that they really, really, really need that law that allows them, and only them, to have sex with prostitutes. So what exactly did Erdogan think would happen when he tried to ban Twitter? Didn’t somebody say something about “can’t stop the signal”? I see the point. Larry Page would rather leave his billions to Elon Musk than to charity. Dog names (per jed in comments). Belladonna Squishypup. Definitely beats Maggie. Or Max. Okay, now I’ve gotten some fabulous deals at garage sales, yard sales, estate sales, rummage sales, or jumble…

Going to the dogs

I was planning on slowly working my way back to reality after the trip to Nicaragua. But no sooner had I returned than a client emergency (or several) came up. Reality caught me and wrestled me to the ground. Those of you I owe emails may have to wait a while. (But then, knowing me and my bad email habits, you’re used to that, aren’t you?) Meanwhile, have some dogs. And a cat or two. Beloved stray gets a home after being hit by a car. Dog saves her human after a snowmobile accident. And while we’re still in this…

Since we’ve been on the subject of writers lately: here’s Megan McArdle on why writers are the worst procrastinators. This isn’t really just about writers, but about fear of failure and the recent “special snowflake” self-esteem generation. And this column about how to get a job at Google isn’t really about how to get a job at Google, either. It’s about creativity. Adaptability. And other good things. Good news for all you who listened to (or played) too much loud rock-n-roll. A cure for noise-induced hearing loss may be on the horizon All hope is not lost. Hungry cougar stalks…

How did this (ahem) “anti-gun” spokesguy keep such a straight face? (H/T jb) Anybody seen The Lego Movie? Critics and audiences are loving it. Foxians have ranted that it’s anti-business. This review say’s its a hilarious and inspiring romp that savages crony capitalism and promotes all that we hold dear. Sure. You’re an anti-gunner and you just “forgot” you carried your gun into an elementary school. Yet another state proposes a law to make it lights out for the NSA. LOL! Best comment yet on the latest unilateral delay by the Obamaites of their “signature” sort-of-a-law-until-we-say-it-isn’t. “They” really do hate…

So you still don’t think Google Glass is creepy? Well how ’bout when New York City cops are testing it? (H/T MJR) “The repentant informant.” This article on liberty’s former friend Stacy Litz was published last year. The reporter (whose name really, truly is Jason Nark) interviewed me but forgot to tell me when the story hit, which is why I’m late with the news. I’m not quoted, but he does reference the booklet the Commentariat collaborated on: Rats! So pat yourselves on the back. You’re famous. 🙂 Cops do the usual no-knock dawn raid. On the usual word of…

OMG, there may be a Velveeta shortage during the Super Bowl! … which would be especially awful when you consider whose teams are playing. What will happen when all those fans get the munchies? Dunno whether this bullying from a TSA thug is for real or not. Wouldn’t be surprised, though. Abramski case. I’d love to see the ATF get its arse handed to it on this one. Just in case you had any doubts about who the fedgov really works for. Judge rules sperm donor to be responsible for child support. Strange ruling. Governmentthink. Dogstuff: sweet and heartbreaking. (H/T…

So, do you think Phil Zimmerman’s Blackphone will become the smartphone of smart people? Or …? It could become a crime in Washington state to help the NSA. Government contractors or workers providing electricity or water to an agency violating the Fourth Amendment would be criminals. (They ought to do this in Utah, where that hellish data center gobbles millions of gallons of precious dry-state water.) H/T PT Another of the many ways in which Obamacare is helping. Clever or creepy? Yeah, depends on who (or which alphabet soupers) get their hands on these snake, worm, and otherwise creepy-crawly robots.…

Weekend links (and another thank you)

You wonderful people. You’ve seen me Definitely Not At My Best twice just since New Year. And … well, you wonderful people. That’s all I can say right now. There will be more soon on that and other things. But for now … on with the blogging, the linkage, the trivia, and the dogs … Um. Well. On the topic of that E.C. I so recently maundered about: How to deal with an existential crisis. Illustrated, yet. Thug sues Nike for not posting a warning on its shoes that they could be dangerous if used for face-stomping. Things you never…

I’m not back. But …

As soon as I post this, I’m going to make Thursday’s “bad” post public again. If clever people and hobby-horse riders want to make the comment section All About Them, that’s on their heads, not mine. Your encouragement, good cheer, and wisdom delivered via email and via comments on yesterday’s apology post helped me get over myself. (The irony was not lost on me that I squealed like a little girl over comments on a post titled “Live Boldly.” It was amazingly nice of y’all not to mention that. 🙂 ) I’m still going to take a week off. I…
